Howdens Joinery are looking for an Industrial Engineer to lead the operational performance and productivity at our Howden site in Yorkshire. With an eye on design and scalability, your role will be to complete an in-depth analysis on warehouse layout and processes to eliminate waste.
As a FTSE 250 business which is undergoing an exciting period of transformation and growth, this role is challenging and interesting, as you deal with fast paced growth and the complexity of operating three warehouse units on one site. As an Industrial Engineer and a technical specialist, you will have an excellent opportunity to utilise the techniques of Industrial Engineering and Continuous Improvement to make a real impact. As an Industrial Engineer, you will work closely with several teams including the Warehouse Operational team, Continuous Improvement, SHE (H&S), L&D, HR, IS, Finance and Quality. The key aim of this cross-functional role is to support Operations to deliver a safe and efficient service to our depots.
In your role you will be responsible for:
The accurate entry and upkeep of all data added to the Warehouse Labour Management System (WLMS). This includes creating flowcharts, upkeep of location and mapping, user information
Performing Direct Observational Time Studies, method studies and using Predetermined Time Motion Systems to create and maintain accurate Time Standards.
Presenting the results of studies to warehouse leadership and operatives.
Working collaboratively with the Warehouse Operational team so that warehouse employees are engaged with the Warehouse Time Standards
Promoting the standardisation of processes and methods across all shifts.
Monitoring and reporting on the performance of warehouse operatives to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Conducting in-depth analysis, studies, and reviews to ensure warehouse processes and procedures are efficient, safe, and sustainable.
Creating a robust schedule and triggers that lead to reviewing Time Standards
Key skills and experience required:
3 years + experience of working within an Industrial Engineering role within a similar environment
Holder of IMS Certificate
Expert technical understanding and practitioner of Warehouse Labour Management Systems and to a proficient level in Warehouse Management Systems
Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
Comfortable in working with large data sets and able to analyse data accurately and concisely
Excellent maths and literacy skills
Skilled at simplifying complex issues and interpreting then so that they can be understood by all levels of stakeholders
Adept at using level of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Knowledge of Lean principles
Up-to-date knowledge of Warehousing innovations and practises (Kardex, Voice picking)
