Norfolk County Council is looking to appoint a Senior Technician (Conservation) to join its Closed Landfill Team. This team is responsible for the management of up to 152 closed landfill sites of which 30 are currently monitored and seven have Environmental Permits.
In this varied role you will lead and supervise the annual conservation plan implementation and improvements to maintain accessibility and environmental management of landfill sites and associated recycling centres in accordance with the NCC environmental biodiversity policy and regulatory requirements.
You will supervise, control and undertake site maintenance operations and organise staff, contractors and resources to ensure safe and efficient operations. You will develop works schedules, identify required resources and quantify materials to price up works for internal and external clients.
Duties also include implementing health and safety procedures, making sure all works are carried out in a safe environment, undertaking surveys, developing management plans and making sure equipment is used in accordance with procedures.
You will possess an NVQ Level 3 in Conservation Management or equivalent, be certified in chainsaw, hedge trimmer, strimmer, pesticide application, tractor and mower operation and maintenance. You will have undertaken First Aid and Health and Safety Training. With the sites being located all over the county, a full clean driving licence (including for towing trailers) is required.
You should have good countryside conservation skills and a good knowledge of biodiversity. A minimum of three years working in a land management or conservation environment is essential. You should be able to understand the natural environment cycles and plan works accordingly. Ideally you have got supervisory experience. Experience of using computers including general office software is required.
You will be required to work outside normal office hours from time to time to meet the needs of the service.
