Do you want to make a difference?
Join us and the work you do will help/save lives on a daily basis – how amazing would that be?
Alerter Group plc is a market leading technology company
You would be helping to design the range of innovative products we install and maintain across the UK. They are emergency and/or communication systems to be used in workplaces, Universities/Colleges or hotels for example.
We have a vacancy based at our Head Office in Derby in our Research & Development team
You will be designing and testing our next new inventions along with improving our existing product portfolio.
How much experience are you looking for?
For this role we would expect you would have experience in a similar sort of role, within electronics design at another company. Although the products you would have been designing would of course be different, we are looking for transferable skills. Ideally we’re looking for someone who has experience of the full product lifecycle from initial design to customer support, or is ready to take that next step.
We have a number of new projects underway as well as others in the planning stages, so we’re looking for someone to join at the start of a number of projects. As well as electronics design knowledge (analogue and/or digital) RF knowledge would be a distinct advantage. Other skills/knowledge we would be looking out for would be knowledge of EMC issues (origins and resolutions), multi-layer PCB design experience, knowledge of microprocessor architecture, assembler and/or C programming skills and experience of CAD systems.
What’s the package on offer?
Your starting salary will be £35K-£45K, dependent on experience/qualifications. You’ll also get BUPA healthcare membership and we have a staff pension scheme. Flexible working hours may be available for the right candidate.
What’s my working environment going to be like?
You will be working in our Head Office, which is a beautiful period building on the edge of Derby City centre (with free on street parking available). Although a period building, we have just completed a complete renovation of our R&D workshop and offices, so you will be working in a brand new, modern environment. It is all freshly decorated and with new ESD flooring and chairs, desks etc.
Will my role really make a difference?
YES! The Managers and Directors really do take an interest in your work and notice when people make that extra bit of effort (there are recognition schemes for this too). You will also be working directly on the design of our future products, all of which will help/save people’s lives in the future.
What’s the company/team culture like?
We’re a friendly bunch of people who share similar goals. We all want to work hard and achieve something at work, but also make a difference in the World and earn money doing this! The Technical team have a real passion for RF, electronics and software design and often spend their free time learning about the latest emerging technologies too.
Will I have fun too?
Yes, we like to have fun as a team too. It isn’t compulsory, but we organise at least 4 staff social events a year (which the company pays for). They are a great chance to get to meet people from all areas of the company, and things we’ve done in the past include curry nights, ten pin bowling, laser quest, Christmas meals and a fun casino.
What are the career prospects for this role?
As your knowledge and experience grows in our specialised area of electronics and software design, we would hope to be able to offer you progression in your career with us. R&D is at the very heart of our technology company, and as we continue to grow as a company we would expect that this would be an area that would expand too.
