As a Principal engineer you will be part of a growing Scotland and UK Roads team. You will be expected to combine managerial leadership with technical responsibility. The role carries a high degree of autonomy
Your responsibilities will include:
Promoting and ensuring adherence to our health and safety policy and procedures.
Managing a portfolio of design packages involving multi-disciplinary design teams.
Guiding teams and clients through the approval processes, including the discharge of associated conditions.
Controlling portfolio programme and budgets and resource management
Ensuring that design output meets the Mott MacDonald quality obligations and requirements set out in our Business Management System.
Showing technical leadership and providing technical expertise and advice.
Presenting technical advice to clients and stakeholders
Assisting Project Directors/Project Principals on major schemes and with business development
Motivating, mentoring and guiding staff in their technical and career development
Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:
Full awareness of Health and Safety Legislation and how it is applied to the design process
Chartership with ICE or CIHT
Considerable relevant post–chartership experience
Proven experience in leading design teams
Practical knowledge of highway design standards (DMRB) and specification (MCHW)
Demonstrable experience in leading the Design process in the Design and Build environment, on major roads projects, including direct interface with the contractor at all stages of the process
Experience in highway design and management of multi-discipline teams
A confident communicator with good verbal and written skills
Technically and commercially experience and skilled in coaching staff
Able to interpret client requirements to produce engineering proposals
Self-motivated and enthusiastic with excellent team work abilities
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively
Knowledge and experience of NEC contracts and quality requirements
Experience of contract preparation and procurement

We also provide advice on procurement options and administer contracts from tender assessment through interim valuations to settlement of final accounts.
