Rail / Civil Engineering
Location – Barnsley (and surrounding areas)
Site based - Project sites expected to be situated in the North/Central region of the LNE route on sites typically based around South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

A busy and fast paced business unit involved in a range of civil engineering works associated with Network rail infrastructure such as various bridge refurbishment and renewals, embankments, stations etc. The business unit are involved in multi-disciplinary rail civils projects up and down the CP6 LNE route ranging in scale and value but often complex and technically challenging.
Existing contracts in the CP6 infrastructure projects framework/contract includes schemes such as bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms, access for all and footbridge installations), platform re-gauging / platform extensions etc.
As Sub Agent or Senior Engineer you will be directly responsible for the daily management of various rail and civil engineering projects within our portfolio of project work in the CP6 framework on the LNE route (Northern patch). Day to day responsibilities would include:
Site Safety, Health Environmental and Quality responsibilities for all site activities
Review and interpret project drawings, specifications for site based activity / engineering.
Setting out and surveying works on site where necessary
Ensuring that site engineering is carried out in a professional, systematic and accurate manner.
Supervision of works on site including labour, plant and subcontractors.
Keeping accurate records, including a diary, of all site activities.
Taking off and ordering of materials.
Daily and weekly planning of site works being carried out, including assisting in the production of Risk Assessments, Work Package Plans, Inspection Test Plans and other documentation.
Day to day management of sub-contractors and engineers as required
Ensuring that the contract is executed in accordance with the requirements of:
All applicable legislation
The Terms and Conditions of the Contract
The Contract Health and Safety Plan
The Work Package Plans and Task Briefing Sheets
The Contract Quality / Environmental Plan
Delivery of the contract within programme and budget.
The continuous monitoring of contract progress to ensure contract objectives are being met.
Ensuring that in conjunction with the site team changes to the contract are identified, agreed and effectively managed.
The provision of formal reports on contract progress to the Project and Contracts Managers.
To excel in this role, you will have previous experience as a Sub Agent or Senior Engineer in a rail and civil engineering environment.
PTS / SMSTS
Degree / HNC or HND in civil engineering (or equivalent compensating experience in a technical engineering role)
Experience as a Sub Agent or Senior Engineer in a rail contracting environment.
Experience in rail working on civils associated projects
