The Blade Materials team under Vestas Technology, Materials & Processes is looking for a number of experienced materials engineers involved in the development of wind turbine blades. The knowledge in this multi-cultural team ranges from: carbon and glass fibre, core, prepregs, adhesives, resins and metal through infusion to pultrusion understanding. This team of highly motivated engineers work to create the most cost-effective materials solutions for the demands of the wind turbine industry. Joining this team offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to shape the wind turbine blades of the future.
Understanding and specifying material requirements to meet design and commercial needs
Development of innovative materials solutions, internally and with suppliers, to improve blade performance, reliability and cost
Qualification and approval of materials systems for blade projects
Material characterisation and analysis of data, including running trials in production environment
Representing Blades in Material Sourcing Teams
Taking responsibility and ownership within your section for current and future strategy
Mentoring engineers to develop and fulfil their potential
We have a number of positions available in this team so our minimum expectation is that you would be an experienced Materials Engineer or Materials Scientist with knowledge of one or some of these areas: carbon and glass fibre, core, adhesives, resins, coating and metals
Ideally you will have an Engineering or Material Science degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, MEng)
You would have experience in material specification, test methods and analysis techniques
Knowledge of composite materials is desirable, as well as knowledge of composites manufacturing processes also would be beneficial
Knowledge of Six Sigma, Green Belt trained desirable
Commercial experience, especially working with suppliers would be an advantage
Lab experience desirable
Experience delivering to projects
Pro-active team player who transmits energy and enthusiasm
Self-motivation, able to manage your work well, driving forward success
Enthusiasm for our industry
Confident and effective communication skills
Accountable and responsible for your work
