The technical illustrator works within the Engineering Services and Approvals Team, and is responsible for the following key tasks:-
To work within the Technical Publications Department of Dover Fueling Solutions UK Ltd involved in the creation of technical documentation for product support. To work closely with local and international Engineering Departments to ensure the provision of documents defining and supporting dispensers, metering pumps, components, payment terminals, and other forecourt devices.
The post is primarily involved with creation and maintenance of Parts Manuals which facilitate the Spares supply of dispenser products as configured for major oil company forecourts across Europe, Africa and Asia. The post requires liaison and formation of good working relationships with engineering and marketing staff responsible for the initial development of these products, and with support and sales personnel at all facilities to gain their input as to the content and editing of the necessary documentation.
The position requires an understanding of manufacturing and design practices / processes, particularly bill of material structure as well as the ability to write and create illustrations / exploded diagrams for Parts / Spares Manuals. Some knowledge of how our products function and perform is an advantage to anyone carrying out this work. Some interface with the Technical Services Department to leverage available information, knowledge and resource from them will likewise be required.
There might be on occasion the need to interface with suppliers and external companies, for example translators, printers, field engineers or tank installers etc.
Documents / information created must be understood by various end users (e.g., major oil company or field service personnel) and must also relay clear requirements for communication by electronic means.
Defining these requirements (i.e. via printed / electronic media) for both new products and existing product enhancements is necessary.
The position requires a high level of competence using PC-based applications including desktop publishing, photo editing / digital imaging software, spreadsheets and CAD packages.
Previous experience using Adobe Framemaker, Adobe Acrobat, Paintshop Pro or similar is mandatory, along with ability to use MS Office (WORD and EXCEL), AutoCAD and CorelDraw.
Duties of the position :-
Preparation of Technical Documentation for Product Support
Production of Technical Illustrations & Digital Images for use in Technical Manuals and other Company publications (as required)
Creation of Electronic Versions of Manuals
Review and / or adoption of third-party documentation.
Expediting required information and materials.
Maintenance of Technical Documentation Control Systems
Prioritising and scheduling
Skills and Experience:-
Experience of illustration and desktop publishing packages, particularly Adobe FrameMaker, Pagemaker, and Adobe Acrobat
Excellent PC literacy and knowledge of MS Office products required.
Basic Pro-Engineer / CREO, Windchill, Solidworks and AutoCAD experience preferred: working with complex Engineering CAD models to generate exploded parts drawings, associated parts lists and dimensioned drawings.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
Knowledge of website design and presentation beneficial.
Prior relevant experience in a Technical Author or Illustrator role would be advantageous
Suitable qualification in an engineering, marketing or information technology discipline along with: -
Good background in CAD work / draughting combined with experience in presentation of information for product usage / installation / maintenance purposes is highly desirable.
Relevant experience in the publication of technical documents would be highly advantageous.
