Siemens Mobility Limited have an opening for an Electrification Project Engineer for our Rail Infrastructure Electrification business based out of either Glasgow or York.
The business in Scotland is growing rapidly and to continue the growth of the team, we require Electrification Project Engineers with Railway Electrification System experience to be an integral part of delivery and innovation on exciting projects.

The Rail Electrification business designs, supplies, installs, tests and commissions switchgear equipment as well as the SCADA control system alongside other project engineering solutions to rail industry operators and suppliers worldwide. This includes the ASG 25 Air insulated Switchgear, which is designed, manufactured, built & tested in the UK. We have earned a respected reputation in the industry which has developed from our success in delivering to our customers. In addition, we are leading the way within the railway industry in developing the next generation of rail technology such as the Static Var Compensator & Static Frequency Converter, so this is the perfect time to join the business in the development of a new, exciting technology.
Your role, and what you’ll be doing:
Working with the Senior Electrification Engineer, the Electrification Project Engineer will support the delivery of OLE projects. This will include assisting to develop novel solutions for future large-scale decarbonisation and helping further develop and support the Siemens OLE product range. They will be in integral part of supporting and collaborating with the broader Rail Infrastructure business on integrated product and delivery solutions.
What will be my Responsibilities?
Be able, through mentorship or otherwise, to act in a project engineering capacity to support projects and programmes with regards to electrification.
Assist with the development of novel programmes for large-scale, cost effective decarbonisation in Scotland and the rest of the UK.
Develop and expand on SICAT knowledge and practices within the organization and with clients.
Expand on successful implementation of SICAT OLE in Scotland to bring low cost, easy to install SICAT assemblies into other parts of the Rail Network as a comprehensive package.
Carry out independent checking of design documents as required.
Assist with supporting ongoing construction works including constructability reviews, construction assurance, development of site work packs and site support.
Undertake option development for projects.
Assist with the production of tenders including providing technical guidance.
Flexible, innovative approach, willing to learn and engage in the implementation of new technologies.
Contribute to and work within a team of industry-leading engineers in an environment open to challenge and being challenged in pursuit of excellence
Maintain and develop own professional knowledge and competence.
Provide support and guidance to Project Manager and Project Engineers on allocated projects.
Assist in the planning and progress of works in relation to timeline and budget.
Maintain continuous communication with colleagues and customers to ensure coherent design and customer satisfaction.
Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan.
Support problem solving and site engineering when required.
What Skills, Qualifications and Experience do I need for this role?
BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge gained through proven experience
Member of the IET, IMechE or other recognised Professional body.
Experience with aspects of Overhead Line Electrification Projects
Knowledge of UK overhead line systems in use on Network Rail infrastructure.
Knowledge and experience with electrification system architecture.
Practical experience of the operational requirements of railway construction works.
Good Knowledge of Network Rail, British and International Standards.
Understanding of Network Rail GRIP Stages and PACE.
Understanding of the key interfaces between design, construction and commissioning.
Excellent communication skills
Good knowledge of Project Safety requirements including CDM Regulations.
A focus on design integration and Safety by Design principles.
