Location: Woofferton Transmitting Site, Ludlow, Shropshire
Reporting to:Senior Engineer
Hours of work: 40 hours per week (shift work)
As part of an engineering team, maintain cost effective performance and operation of all broadcast/communications, and associated equipment to agreed standards and Key Performance Indicators, at our Encompass Digital Media Transmitting Station based at Woofferton, on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border.
Principal Responsibilities:To carry out all operational, maintenance and repair work on:
High power 250kW radio transmitters and associated equipment
Satellite receive/transmit antenna and associated equipment
Computer/IP data networks
As a part of the engineering team you will be required to:
Work, on average one weekend in five.
When acting as Duty Engineer, be responsible for all of the operational scheduling and maintenance work of the engineering team, be a point of contact for customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders for all matters affecting transmitter site performance.
Undertake standby duties as part of a rota, with some lone working.
Investigate equipment performance deficiencies and devise solutions to effect improvements.
Give technical support and work independently on specialist projects as required.
When required, produce reports on all matters associated with equipment performance, including analysis of trends in order to assist in long term planning.
Engineer qualified - HND/HNC/NVQ4 or equivalent.
Comprehensive knowledge of current safe working practices and safety procedures.
A knowledge of electronic, electrical, IT networking, satellite installation and RF equipment.
Minimum 2 year's practical experience of engineering maintenance and operation work.
Basic workshop skills, including hand and power tools.
A full UK driving license.
An interest in radio and antenna systems, in particular HF systems, and a sound understanding of IT networking and TCP/IP.
Qualifications in power systems up to 1100kV – HV Authorised Person.
