Developer/Engineer - Server Hardware Management

The Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Engineering group in the Core Infrastructure division at Morgan Stanley is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the firm's huge scale global physical and virtual server infrastructure. The group is involved in evaluation, certification, integration, and maintenance of numerous products, including hardware, hypervisor, the Linux O/S, system configuration, critical infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc.), high availability products and virtualization management technologies.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced, hands-on developer/engineer to join the hardware management team in Glasgow. A successful candidate for this role could be from an embedded systems development or hardware engineering background looking to climb the technology stack, have existing experience in the enterprise hardware management space and be looking for a larger challenge, or a development-oriented candidate interested in configuring & managing the compute layer building blocks for a global enterprise.
Work on business-enabling infrastructure projects utilising leading edge CPU, storage and networking architectures, security strengthening and operational scaling.
Develop and integrate software components, including in-house developed systems as well as vendor platforms and open source solutions.
Provide highly scalable automation tooling to easily manage our global server portfolio, including lights out management, firmware and peripherals.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems in the application, operating system and hardware layers#LI-AS2
Experience of managing, deploying to, and troubleshooting, large scale production environments including application of security principles and system hardening.
Knowledge of Linux, and O/S and network protocols.
Knowledge of x86 hardware and peripherals, including Out of Band or Lights out Management.
Ability to write robust, maintainable code in Python and/or Perl, collaborating with other engineers and developers following Agile practices.
Effective troubleshooting skills across hardware, O/S, network, and storage.
You May Have
Knowledge of enterprise-scale server management platforms such as Dell OpenManage, HP OneView or Lenovo XClarity or the Redfish API standards
Familiarity with C, UNIX system calls, and other low-level technologies
Experience working in a large, multi-national enterprise in any industry vertical, showing experience of communicating and collaborating in globally distributed teams.
Enthusiasm for modern development tools and Agile/DevOps practices including Git, Jenkins, automated testing, and continuous integration.#LI-AS2
