Analyzes customer information requirements and product specifications to define technical content strategy and plan. Designs and develops written and/or visual product-related information – hard copy, web - (e.g., user/configuration/troubleshooting guides), and online information (interactive demos, help systems) integrated into product, for a variety of audiences (end user, system administrators, internal support engineers, product developers, training developers). Codes, builds, compiles, and tests online information and/or sets-up, loads and tests systems hardware to create information deliverables and provide feedback on ease of use and user interfaces to product development. As customer advocate, helps define/refine product requirements. Develops standards and style documents and templates, scripts, style sheets, and script and graphic libraries to ensure common look and feel. Interfaces with cross-functional areas as a member of the product development team, such as marketing, test, support, and manufacturing.
You will be involved in maintaining existing documentation for our mainframe product set, as well as authoring completely new documentation for our future products. Interaction with the authoring team, as well as the ability to work alone with the software to create demos and tutorials, is essential.
Demonstrated experience with the technical writing or training process. Be sympathetic to the needs of a programmer or end user and approach the documentation task with that mindset. The candidate should be able to provide technical writing samples, if possible.
Sound use of the grammar and structure of the English language.
Technical familiarity with the ISPF program development and execution facilities of the z/OS operating system, including:
Familiarity with the components of an ISPF dialog.
High-level knowledge of Job Control Language (JCL). Be able to customize the components of a JCL stream, submit a job for execution, and use the facilities of SDSF to examine job output.
Be able to follow the instructions of an Installation Guide to create and bring up a started task.
Use of the functions of the ISPF main menu.
- Familiarity and experience with the Adobe FrameMaker desktop publishing tool is highly recommended.
- High-level knowledge of CICS, Db2, SQL, IMS, and the zFS file system is a plus.
- High-level familiarity with a program language such as COBOL, PL/I, or REXX is a plus.
- Prior experience with ChangeMan ZMF is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with the members of an interdisciplinary product team, including programmers, quality assurance, marketing, and other authors.

Education and Experience Required:
Typically a First Level University degree in Technical Communications, Computer Science or related technical/communications field and a minimum of 2-4 years related experience or an Advanced University degree and up to 2 years related experience or equivalent.
Understand software and hardware technology area concepts and develops working knowledge of products/processes, applications and systems in assigned area of responsibility such as authoring tools and source management.
Ability to operate in multiple disciplines (multi-platform products).
Knowledge and Skills:
Existing product within a technology, or new product within a technology with supervision.
