Our Highways Design Teams design and deliver a wide range of highway construction projects as part of its Capital Improvement Programme, along with a range of Government funded projects and third party commissions. Our work covers all aspects of highway design and construction with many large projects and programmes in terms of their scope and value.
We’re looking for Project Technicians to join our team, and keen to hear from those looking to develop a career in the sector or progress their career within highways. As a Project Technician, you will assist in the provision of safe and efficient technical highway/civil engineering design and project delivery in a supporting role to enable the department to deliver its capital programmes.
With guidance, depending on your level, you will operate specialist systems (including IT – particularly developing a knowledge of AutoCAD), generate information and provide technical support to Project Owners and Engineers and have the opportunity to manage and deliver your own projects. We offer good opportunities for progression and development for the right candidates.
We offer three entry levels for Project Technicians.
For our entry level 1, you will have at least 5 GCSE’s grade C or 4/5 and above, or equivalent, and willing to start a recognised civil engineering qualification. You will need to demonstrate self-motivation to meet set targets and academic achievement.
At level 2, you will have a National Certificate in Civil Engineering (or be nearing completion of) and be able to demonstrate equivalent technical ability. You will be working towards achieving Eng Tech professional status, or willing to start, and have experience in a similar role/environment.
At level 3, you will be a fully competent Project Technician able to work independently in the role of a project owner on small schemes. You will already have a National Certificate in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and achieved Eng Tech professional status.
