A typical week would include:
Technical management and delivery of geotechnical projects across a team, making use of efficient working practices to provide industry leading, best value services to our clients. This is to provide technical advice that builds relationships and raises the profile of the local geotechnical team.
Effectively manage and deliver project work with robust project financial management. Has budget responsibility for the delivery of multiple projects and services across a geotechnical team.
Management of team resources and allocation of appropriate project resources across multiple projects.
Manage, motivate, mentor and develop supporting professional staff across the team. Lead and actively contribute to technical excellence initiatives across the team.
Oversee all aspects of project delivery including liaison with clients, contractors and sub consultants, and public and statutory bodies, quality control and management of specialists. Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary teams working on geotechnical projects to provide professional advice that builds relationships and raises the profile of the geotechnical team. Make clients aware of the range of services provided by the company and aid business development across WSP
Working in accordance with accepted methods and legislation (including CDM) and operate in accordance with WSP’s corporate health & safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) standards. Management of SHEQ requirements across the geotechnical team.
Undertake own continuing professional development and showing management of others across a team to maintain and build professional capability. Also representing the geotechnical team at technical conferences and seminars.
Actively contribute to the pursuit of new business opportunities within the local and wider geotechnical team and across WSP, including regular liaison with existing and potential clients both internally and externally. This will include the coordination of geotechnical bids and proposals across the team, including the preparation of some individual geotechnical bids and proposals. Potentially involved in business development in line with the business plan.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
1st degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geotechnics, Engineering Geology or Geology; Full professional membership / chartership; Full UK driving licence
In depth specialist knowledge of geotechnical engineering, with a comprehensive understanding of the underlying principles, and substantial project management experience of large projects.
Significant consultancy experience across a range of business sectors with demonstrably good commercial awareness and relationships with clients and contractors. Has strong communication and proven project management skills including leading and managing geotechnical teams within a competitive business environment.
Proven track record in the delivery of geotechnical projects, including preparing reports to a high technical level. Understanding of client requirements and the ability to influence contract specifications. Good awareness of project risks and change management.
Excellent report-writing and strong client liaison skills. Will have significant previous experience of undertaking and managing: geotechnical desk studies; designing, procuring & supervising Ground Investigations (GIs); checking and reviewing Ground Investigation Reports & Geotechnical Design Reports in accordance with the requirements of Eurocode 7: Part 1. Client facing and able to lead at client/contractor meetings
Demonstrate ability to manage geotechnical design teams within a multi-disciplinary environment with a full understanding of design submission documentation and processes. An up-to-date knowledge of relevant UK legislation relevant to the profession.
In-depth knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications.
