7254BR - Planning Coordinator, Southern Water. Fixed Term Contract. 25 Hours per week. Advertised salary will be pro rated.

Southern Water are currently looking for a Planning Coordinator to join our busy Business Channels team in Durrington, Worthing on a fixed term contract, to provide maternity cover. This is a part time role working 25 hours per week to start asap until 18th June 2021.

The standard working pattern will be 9.00am – 3.00pm Monday, Tues, and 8.00am – 3.00pm Weds, Thurs. Flexibility around times and days of work will be considered but Wednesdays and Thursdays will be required for a minimum of 5 hours per day.

As Planning Coordinator the key purpose of your role is to liaise with planning authorities, developers and southern water departments to effectively respond to planning consultations as part of the asset creation process. This will include adoptions, connections, diversions, capacity checks and building over public sewer applications. This enables us to deliver our customer needs whilst complying with Southern Water and Industry policies.

You must be able to drive and have access to your own vehicle as there will be a requirement to visit developers and local councils across the Sussex region. Mileage will be reimbursed.

You will be accountable for:
  • Liaising with developers/customers on the status of their applications ensuring the most appropriate technical solution is in place.
  • Representing Southern Water at meetings with customers, developers and other interested parties.
  • Assessing the impact of new developments and producing drainage strategies and solutions which maintain the integrity of the existing infrastructure.
  • Reviewing capacity checks for developments connecting to public sewerage systems and evaluating all new designs produced by developers to ensure they comply with Sewers for Adoption and the Water industry Act.
You may also be required to cover for the Growth Planning Lead on rare occasions.

Knowledge of the following is preferable but training will be given:

Technical Water Industry Act 1991. Sewers for Adoption. Water industry codes of practice.
New Connection Charging. Building regulations. Commercial Effectiveness and Business Expertise. Capability to deliver excellent customer service. You may be required to develop existing policies and procedures further or create new policies. You will have the skills to operate in a demanding performance driven environment requiring a high degree of team working. You will have good presentation skills and are IT literate. Experience of D-MeX is ideal but training will be given.

Experience in a Customer/External Stakeholder facing role would be helpful, as would experience in Water/Wastewater design. HNC/D or Degree in Civil Engineering or Water based subject is an advantage
