The individual is expected to take a high level of responsibility in most aspects of research and development of high-performance RF/MMICs circuit blocks ranging typically from 2-60 GHz. The individual will perform concept and feasibility studies of RF/ MMIC circuit blocks, then take chosen designs through to completion through simulation and optimization. This will include layout activity of RF critical circuit elements and proving designs from block level through to top-level. The individual is also expected to provide junior members of the team with guidance and support as necessary to ensure successful completion of the project. The position is based in Reading, UK but may involve occasional travel overseas. Roles & Responsibilities
This position has responsibility for:
Product Design and Evaluation: Schematic Capture, lC layout, Simulation, Package Analysis, Evaluation Board Design, Design Validation.
Product Documentation: Document all relevant product and design information to educate others on novel design techniques and provide guidance on product usage.
Product Characterization: Work with Characterization and Test Engineers to define, conduct and analyze data from product performance characterization.
Production ATE Development: Work with Test Engineers to ensure testability is incorporated in the product during design.
Product Support: Work with Applications, Product, Test and Manufacturing Engineers to help answer customer questions, assess field failures, support yield improvements and other manufacturing issues.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
ln order to perform the job successfully, an individual should possess the following knowledge and skills:
S parameter design; small and large signal matching techniques.
Transistor level lC design and layout in bulk CMOS, SOI or SiGe processes.
RF and MMIC block design, including 2.5D EM simulation: Amplifiers including PA & LNA, RF switches, mixers, multipliers, phase shifters, switched attenuators, passive circuit design including hybrids, couplers & combiners.
Knowledge of lC fabrication and how this impacts circuit performance.
Good understanding of non-linear effects in transistors
Knowledge of basic Analog Bias and control circuits and their impact on overall RF system.
Analog & RF lC layout skills.
Hands-on measurement skills for evaluation of circuits designed
Technical guidance to accomplish the team project.
Collaboration: Works jointly with other team members and departments on intellectual projects.
Software tools: Virtuoso, Cadence Spectre, Keysight ADS, EMX, Momentum
The following would also be highly valued:
Knowledge of Radio Architecture, RF system knowledge, Phase array IC experience
PA efficiency improvement techniques, Vector Modulator design, PLL design, VCO design.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
Design experience in different technologies GaAs, GaN, SiGe and understanding comparative advantage and tradeoffs in between.
3D EM (Electromagnetic) modelling experience (could include some knowledge of HFSS)

Education & Experience Requirements
BSc (Hons) or higher in Electronics, Physics or related disciplines.
Around 10 year’s lC design experience in the semiconductor industry.
