The Composite Design Engineer will report to the Mechanical Design Group Team Leader, the candidate shall have an engineering background in the aerospace or automotive industry and would have been involved in the design and/or stress analysis of composite components from concepts to certification. It is envisaged that the candidate would have a minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience. The skills set requirements and responsibilities for the position are listed below.
Develops comprehensive technical services across the business and supports the process of new business development
Provides accurate and timely evaluation of the cost structure for new business opportunities and proposes technical solutions
Generation of manufacturing drawings, generation of qualification plans, QTPs and QTRs etc
Attend internal and external design reviews and work as part of a small team
Develops item master data, cost structure, tooling and identifies capital equipment requirements to support a quality engineered and cost effective bid
Supports program plans in terms of manufacturing engineering issues and assists operations In insuring that new business items are successfully transferred into production
Conducts and supports discovery and validation of engineering research
Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance
Designing aerospace composite and hybrid structures to customer requirement specifications to programme and budget.
Generation of manufacturing drawings, generation of qualification plans, QTPs and QTRs etc.
Key Skills and Attributes
An education to degree / HND level in mechanical or aerospace engineering
Demonstration of competence in the design and/or analysis of fibre reinforced composite materials
Familiar with aerospace composite design methodologies and best practice
Proficient in the use of CAD systems, preferably CATIA V5
Good communication skills and presentation and able to work within a small team with a willingness to learn
Experience in the stress analysis of composite components using FEA software such as NASTRAN, ANSYS or HYPERWORKS
Familiar with military and civil certification requirements for aerospace structures
The generation of detailed manufacturing drawings to BS8888 and ASME Y14.5
Knowledge of manufacturing techniques for fibre reinforced plastic and thermoplastic materials
Knowledge of anti-icing and de-icing of structures for the aerospace industry
