Role: Principal Engineer, Module Process Engineering

Required to define processes related to pcb, pcba and assembly for opto-electronic modules R&D team. This team develops modules for optical communication systems
Knowledgeable engineer, with expert understanding of high technology pcb, pcba (including flex PCB) and assembly processes for volume production.
Will join a product R&D team and contribute to the development of new components and modules for next generation optical transmission systems.
Own all processes related to opto-electronic modules including working with pcb manufacturers, pcba contract houses and module assembly lines (internal and contract houses).
Contribute to/own DFM activities.
Ownership of key process documentation (PFMEA, control plans, validation plans, work instructions etc).
Problem solving using 8D methodology.
Generation of module level assembly documentation
Definition and verification of jigs and fixtures related to module assembly
Transfer of module assembly processes from R&D to CM
Work with both R&D design team and manufacturing team to introduce robust designs and processes
Will work closely with other members of the design team, including mechanical design engineers, ECAD engineers, optical and electronic engineers, process development engineers and the product qualification team
Honours degree or equivalent in physics, optics, electronics or equivalent technical discipline
PCB and PCBa manufacture including use of BGA and chip scale components
Understanding of industry standards such as IPC etc.
Production experience of small assemblies of pcba’s within a housing with associated processes
Experienced in working with contract houses and suppliers
Strong data analysis and interpretation skills/experience
SPC, Gauge R&R, statistical analysis of complex data.
Confident interpreting technical drawings and understanding manufacturing tolerances.
Methodical approach to problem solving, ability to communicate complex issues to a wide audience and influence decision making.
Fibre routing within assemblies
Optical Communication systems, components and design is an advantage
Experience of working in a strong Kaizen environment.
At least 5 years industrial experience
Regular travel to other Lumentum sites in the UK and abroad will be required
