About the role
Responsible for assisting the Site Manager in the general running of site activities. In particular plant associated activities, safety and welfare, site presentation and labouring when required.
Operate plant and equipment and bank the crane when required, subject to having all the necessary approved certificates.
Organise and supervise the work of Banksman, Labourers and Crane Driver, subject to the overall control of the Site Manager, if the latter is on site.
Inform the Site Manager if operatives are not conforming to McCarthy & Stone safety policy guidance notes.
Inform the Site Management staff if any materials received are incomplete or faulty.
Receive and assist visitors to the site including building control/NHBC inspectors, architects, sales staff, engineers and safety officers.
The Ganger is responsible for daily surveillance of all safety matters on site and for ensuring that daily registers of accidents and inspections are maintained.
The Ganger has overall responsibility for site security when the Site Manager is not present.
The post holder is expected to use initiative and make day to day decisions on construction matters on site referring to the appropriate manager for a decision as may be considered necessary.
Assist the Site Manager and site staff in maintaining high standards of site presentation, with particular regard to the tidiness of working area/material stacking areas, flags, signs, hoardings, plant and site accommodation. Deputies in the Site Manager’s/Assistant Managers absence and ensure daily inspections are carried out and necessary remedial action is taken
Other general responsibilities
Maintain standards and consistency by keeping up to date and operating within the latest defined standard specifications, using the approved documentation, process, systems and source information to ensure consistent and effective performance
Always fully comply with McCarthy & Stone’s policies and procedures
Actively engage and collaboratively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Undertake such other reasonable duties, commensurate with the job holder’s experience and qualifications as may be required for the smooth running of the business
The post holder will be required to complete all necessary training to ensure that a level of competency is achieved to assist the site management in the running of the site. These qualifications will vary dependent on site conditions but qualifications for First Aid, slinger/signaller and vehicle banking are essential and SSTS. The job holder will be expected to carry out all refresher training as required to maintain these qualifications.
Knowledge and Experience
Experience of working on site is essential.
Extensive knowledge of the building industry is desirable.
CSCS Card – Required with appropriate level CSCS qualification.
