This is an exciting opportunity for control room operators to join and help shape Equinor’s UK central control room (CCR) for offshore wind. A dedicated project team is developing this CCR in the Port of Tyne with highly integrated systems and designed for scalability.
From this CCR, Equinor will provide control room services to the Dogger Bank wind farms (comprising of three 1.2GW phases). The successful candidate will join the CCR in the project delivery phase, support the project and undergo training, before providing services as a control room operator during operations.
This role reports to the UK CCR Leader and forms part of the Dogger Bank operations organisation, within Equinor’s North Sea Renewables business unit. The role is located in the CCR facility in Port of Tyne (near Newcastle, United Kingdom), and during construction you may be asked to work at the Dogger Bank onshore converter stations. Due to the shift work you will be required to live locally. We are seeking a candidate with long term commitment to play a key role in ensuring continuity of knowledge from construction and operational setup into operations.
During project execution:
Undertake relevant training and qualifications to become authorised Control Room Operator
Develop a strong team culture with other operators
Participate in project system design reviews, technical clarifications, acceptance tests, commissioning and handovers to ensure safe and efficient design for operational use
Modify or create necessary work procedures to ensure they enable safe and efficient operations within the CCR operating model
Business travel when needed
Provide 24/7 support to operations:
maintaining safety and optimising production by operating and proactively monitoring all plant and equipment. This includes wind turbines, balance of plant and electrical system infrastructure.
Perform Control Engineer duties under the Equinor Wind Electrical Safety Rules, including switching operations
Control personnel access and work through the safe system of work
Communication role within the 2nd line emergency response organisation
Handle instructions from National Grid
Marine coordination, including weather monitoring
Report operational faults and risks
Support integration of future wind farms, including commissioning
Continuously improve working practices and governance

Experience of electrical power systems and safe systems of work
Experience of working with high voltage safety rules and associated procedures
Fully IT literate
Fluent English oral and writing
HND, degree or equivalent in an electrical or automation (instrumentation and control) background (relevant experience may compensate for formal qualifications)
experience as control room operator or working with SCADA systems within power generation
working knowledge of wind farm plant and equipment
experience as a Senior Authorised Person
Ability to live by our safety and security expectations
Ability to make decisions in dynamic situations under pressure
Ability to work in a procedure driven environment
Excellent communication skills and a team player
Self-motivated to learn and share experience
Hands-on and proactive
Live near Port of Tyne or be willing to move to the area
