Become familiar with Dispenser Calculator Electronics, Software control of dispenser electronics, and the creation of dispenser configuration / software setting processes through the use of in-house designed hardware / systems.
Learn how the company systems function, and specifically how these interact with production and test process systems. Gain an understanding of how these systems collate data input from various departments.
These include: -
Primarily Engineering, but also Quality (Factory + QA), Manufacturing Engineering. Gathering data from order entry / configurator systems would also be involved.
Co-operation would be required with Engineering teams based in multiple international sites.
Carry out GAP Analyses – between fuel dispenser functionality, calculator programming and input from product configurator systems in order to define programming code to upload to the individual dispensers across multiple programming / test bays.
Work with calculator engineering teams to review in-house development and compare against “bought-in” expertise – using bases of cost, timescale, support network (internal / external).
Flexible approach to working – if development work demands access when systems are “unused” – adjust working hours to (i) work during down-time, and (ii) maintain systems availability during working hours.
Consider issues raised by concurrent working in different time zones. Consider systems support being used from different countries. (Tight software change control system will be required.)
Identify reliable and robust architecture and data modelling at a high level to allow lower level customisation of conforming sub-processes, which must be able to evolve / develop with organisational needs.
Establish modular approach to software - so that functional units can be tried / tested / debugged before releasing into main structure. Try to recognise which modules will evolve (through time) – and ensure these are adaptable.
Create documented systems so that systems knowledge can be readily shared with others.
Educational Requirements & Experience: -
Educated to degree level in Electronics with experience or an interest in software / computer science or a related discipline.
Experience in developing web based applications (for intranet systems) is a plus.
Required Technical Skills: -
Basic knowledge of the software life cycle and object-oriented design patterns and principles. [Note: knowledge / experience gained in engineering environment rather than commercial / financial is major advantage.]
Knowledge of MVC (model view control)
Experience developing / working with newer web based technologies such as AJAX.
Other Skills: -
