The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As an Application Engineer for Energy Grid Modernization , you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Interface with power utilities, EPC firms, and large industrial firms to discover underserved needs in monitoring, protection, power quality, and asset health management areas in Medium Voltage (MV) distribution system for large scale deployment
Perform testing in lab cross functional teams and at customer site to demonstrate solution functionalities and integration feasibility to customers’ electrical and communication infrastructure
Perform installations at customer site that includes electrical and mechanical integration in MV distribution infrastructure, integration with instrumentation and controls components such as RTUs and controllers, and integration with customers’ communication infrastructure
Provide training to stakeholders in 3M and in customer organization
Gather market insights based on technical Voice of Customer and secondary research
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
Academic: BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
3 – 5 years’ experience in power systems and controls by working in a Power utility, Electrical OEM, or Integrator/Consulting firm
Experienced with testing and simulation of telemetry devices in lab and field (grid) environments
Experienced in working with various departments within power utility such as operations (including field crew), distribution engineering, future grid, system planning. Strong customer engagement, communication and relationship building skills.
A desire to work in a globally distributed and cross-functional team
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Academic: MS Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Experience in power distribution system planning for EV infrastructure development
Experience with Power utility Cybersecurity standards
Experience with data integration and hosting solutions and services in Power utility industry (Cloud based Software-As-A-Service)
Travel: 50 % expected
Role Location: UK wide
