Degree Software Engineer Trainee

Our exciting Software Trainee role will develop your software skills to become a confident, positive and flexible engineer with well-honed technical knowledge. You will support the team to deliver software solutions to deadlines and within budget, including reviewing code and running project reviews.
As a Trainee Software Engineer you will develop the key skills and experience in the following:
Programming skills in C or C++
Development of real-time embedded software systems
Development of training and simulation systems including producing computer generated imagery
Experience of working in an agile environment
Familiarity with requirements management tools and software engineering design tools
Develop quality software solutions that adhere to time-scale and budget
Develop domain specific knowledge and the ability to deliver engineering solutions in the aerospace sector on custom processing platforms

Software Trainee Degree Programme:
Through our degree trainee programme you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.
As a Software Trainee you will be studying towards a BSc in Mechatronic Engineering with the University of Ulster. For the duration of this five year programme you will combine university studies with practical application, working within our software function in Belfast.
This programme is delivered via a day release by the University of Ulster. On the days you are not attending university you will be working in the business, applying your university learning in a real life software environment. At the end of the programme you be working as a software engineer within the Thales Integrated Airspace-protection Systems (IAS) business.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. A self-starter who is able to manage their time, show initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to achieve a degree qualification.
You will also need:
Candidates will need A Levels grades BBB to include Grade B in one from Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Technology & Design, Design & Technology, Engineering, Electronics or Double Award Science/Applied Science (or qualifications equivalent to A Levels)
They will also require a GCSE grade A-C in English.
Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 5 year programme
