Thales UK currently has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Principal Test Design Engineer to join our team of Test Engineering experts. Working as part of a diverse team of professional Engineers with many years of accumulated knowledge and experience, the Test Engineering Team are responsible for designing, building and integrating first-class test solutions for all Business Units, using a wide range of techniques and technologies. Due to continued growth, this role will be aligned to support one of our fasted growing business domains, Maritime Mission Systems
Role & Responsibilities:
Undertaking a fast paced and varied role, working as a team, you will be responsible for delivering the correct test solutions for the needs of the project(s). This can range from a simple test box through to complex STTE/PXI Solutions and will require involvement throughout the lifecycle of the solution from concept to completion. Key duties will include but will not be limited to:
To originate, specify and prove designs to meet project operational requirements
To ensure the product is delivered on time and to budget, managing work packages of up to £1M
To support forward planning activities for project activities and to support the generation of relevant development plans
To assist in the development of the team with senior stakeholders
To provide feedback on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment and participate in the validation of new tools
To support and assist audit and review activities on company processes
To share knowledge across the function and projects.
Skills & Behaviours
Thales is committed to hiring individuals with a “can do” and positive attitude with willingness to learn and improve on skills and knowledge. We are looking for an individual with a strong Test Engineering background coupled with excellent skills in collaborating with others, along with some of the following attributes:
HND or equivalent (or similar) in electronics engineering subject or in similar subject (or relevant work experience)
Ideally experienced in at least one of the following: LabVIEW object generation, TestStand, LabWindows/CVI, C++, Python, PXI/GPIB, STTE Design, JTAG (JTAG Tech/XJTAG/J-TESTr), ARINC_429/1553B Interface Protocols
Work package management
Design for safety
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to promote collaborative working
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with high attention to detail
Drive to achieve high standards, actively seeking improvement
