We have some exciting opportunities for Hydrogen Innovation Engineers based in our Warwick Offices. These opportunities will require you to travel to different locations in the uk when required..
Technical Lead for key technology themes in the hydrogen innovation team, leading the GT business on the transition to net zero. Developing the portfolio of opportunities, identifying relevant internal and external funding, drive commercially sound execution of the projects and implement them within the net zero investments.
There are 3 strategic themes – Automation & Measurement, Materials & Processing & Business Process . Each Hydrogen Innovation Engineer will lead one of these strategic themes and be the key interface for these technologies both to the internal business and external stakeholders.
Development of strategic portfolio of projects and technology roadmaps
Link opportunities into business and asset strategies and key future investments
Work with UK networks to develop cross functional innovation strategy
Work with Worldwide stakeholders to ensure the validity of our strategy and portfolio of projects
Lead the technical delivery of NIA, SIF and UKRI portfolio projects in the given strategic theme
Disseminate key focus areas and activities to the business
Lead the identification and application of external funding opportunities
Develop project scopes and funding bids with relevant teams
Lead cross functional forum to ensure NG do not duplicate funding activities
Ensure and enable the commerciality of our Hydrogen innovation activities
Drive IP and licensing agreements with suppliers
Identify leads and support development of the innovation projects
Develop project overview packs and financial project information for internal review
Disseminate key project activities to external stakeholders and develop PR strategy with internal teams
Support Internal, Corporate audit and external UKRI/Ofgem audit process
Automation & MeasurementThe automation and measurement strategic theme covers all sensing systems within the gas network and assessment methodologies such as the use of pipeline inspection gauges and robotic assessments. The theme supports the roll out and use of the GRAID (Gas Robotic Agile Inspection Device) system developed in RIIO-1 and looks to further develop this capability with improved autonomy and sensing.
Materials and ProcessingThe materials strategic theme develops solutions to improving our materials resistance to current and future scenarios whilst developing novel robust techniques to repair the NTS assets more efficiently and help extend their lifetime. The theme also explore future materials technologies such as smart materials and works with the automation and measurement theme to review automated repair technologies and in built sensing.
Business ProcessThe business process strategic theme focusses on the operation of the NTS and builds an understanding of how this may evolve with the market changes through the energy transition. This theme considers the skills and competencies required for the transition through to how we best support industry and transport in the UK.
Interpersonal, Supervisory or Management
Experience of working with cross functional indirect teams to develop & deliver projects
Experience of communicating complex technical solutions across multi-disciplinary functions
Technical or Specialist
Knowledge of NIA and SIF project funding mechanisms and the regulatory governance requirements
Knowledge of external funding mechanisms (Ofgem, InnovateUK, EU)
Knowledge of IP positions relating to innovation projects
Broad understanding of National Grid’s Gas Transmission Business and particularly the future challenges faced.
Experience developing and managing a complex project portfolio, delivering on time and within budget.
Experience with regulatory and financial reporting.
Financial Control - Experience Required
Experience of managing project costs and contracts
Experience of IP agreements
Experience of building business cases
Qualifications:Essential (at appointment):
Degree in Engineering or similar (in a science, business/economics, numerical or management discipline)
Chartered in asset or engineering discipline
