Job Introduction
The BBC Cloud Platform team provide the Developer tools underpinning the BBCs Digital Products, including BBC News and Sport, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
The BBC runs a large number of applications and services in the Cloud to deliver both its online products and an increasing number of core broadcast systems. The availability of those services is vital to its public service remit to deliver high quality and reliable digital content. Our work enables hundreds of engineers to make thousands of changes to these services every day.
Main Responsibilities
We build tooling to help developers deliver software as fast, as reliably, and as cost effectively as possible. We provide:
Automation of thousands of deployments every day to VM, Serverless and Container environments
The operating systems and package management tools used by teams
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to enable secure communication between BBC services
The control plane for all usage of Public Cloud at the BBC, with services to manage accounts, billing and access control
As a junior software engineer, you will be responsible for:
Developing and maintaining the software components the team is responsible for.
Working with the BBC developer community, our users, to understand their needs and to help them get the most from our services
Contributing to the design and architecture of the team's software systems. We're always building new components in addition to supporting our existing services!
Identifying and advocating for new areas of investment for the BBC Cloud Platform
Participating in the on-call rota for the software systems that the teams support
Are you the right candidate?
Strong software engineering skills (Python experience preferred, but all candidates with curiosity welcome!)
Familiarity with database technologies and SQL
Knowledge and interest in Continuous Delivery principles
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude
Keen to learn new skills and gain experience with technologies at a rapid pace
