About Thales Alenia Space in Harwell
Thales Alenia Space is located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Harwell, Oxfordshire and is home to the propulsion, research, design, AIT and engineering teams. The UK is the Centre of Excellence for Propulsion for the whole of Thales Alenia Space JV, including propulsion research and development.
About the role
Thales Alenia Space in the UK is currently looking for a Mission & GNC Engineer, based in Harwell. Joining our teams you will be at the heart of most advanced technologies in the field of spacecraft design and particularly the Mission and GNC design.
The position is open to junior and senior engineers. The scope of the role will vary with the level of experience of the selected applicant.
Key responsibilities at early design phases:
Mission Design and Analysis
Flight Dynamics, including orbit acquisition and maintenance strategy design
High level specifications for Space and Ground segment
Definition of Concept of Operations
Advanced design of the Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem (AOCS)
Key responsibilities at development phases:
Consolidation of trade-off and overall design
Creation of detailed dynamics models and design of GNC functions
Specification of the Spacecraft Flight Dynamics Software
Sensitivity and Robustness simulations
Contribution to the spacecraft avionics functional validation
Contribution to the spacecraft operations, including LEOP (Launch and Early Operations)
Skills & Experience
Required Qualification, Experience and Skills:
Engineering degree compatible with the requirements of the position
Good knowledge on spacecraft dynamics and control techniques
Good knowledge of typical spacecraft missions and designs
Experience of working in a multi-discipline team environment
Hands-on experience on design software such as MATLAB & SIMULINK
A demonstrable positive performance record (either educational or professional)
The following experience and attributes are also desirable for this position;
Experience in control systems design and validation
Experience with spacecraft avionics development and validation
Experience with spacecraft operations
Experience working on R&D projects for external customers
Experience leading external reviews
Deep knowledge of one or several type of AOCS unit/equipment
Experience managing external partners and suppliers
Experience leading an engineering team
