Review audit reports, non-conformances, contract reviews etc., for technical compliance; approve documents for certification if they meet the relevant Standard’s technical requirements
To provide sound technical advice and to work efficiently within the required timescales
Respond to and resolve promptly to enquiries relating to Technical / Certification matters
Attain, maintain and apply a defined level of technical competence in agreed areas; make consistent technical judgments at all times
Prepare Technical files and Certificates of Conformity. Be able to judge the relevance and impact of the data in order to provide advice based on customer needs to produce classification and assessment reports
Plan test programmes in liaison with clients and the relevant testing department
Autonomy for own work schedule, priorities and activity/progress against requirements
Assisting in the development of the department – positively contribute ideas and provide sounding-board for new initiatives, etc
Maintain professional work standards based on a balance of quality of decision making, output, and timeliness
Work with manager, colleagues and team to increase knowledge of role and standards and the service provided by all; put effort into improving technical and decision-making skills for self and the team
Provide support for Accreditation Body audits as required
Skills / Qualifications:
Educated to A level standard or equivalent, ideally with a science or engineering degree or relevant industry experience
Experience of fire testing of construction products would be advantageous, but not essential
Exposure within any fire industry, building materials, materials science, product installation, engineering, construction, product certification, fire-related product development or a similar technical industry
Keen interest in all aspects of fire safety
Practical laboratory experience would be advantageous, but not essential
Methodical and highly organised: capable of meeting deadlines, seeing problems through and overcoming obstacles
Able to prioritise and reach decisions quickly and effectively
Able to make informed decisions and confidence to stand by / justify these decisions
Strong written & verbal communication skills
Excellent numeracy skills and strong attention to detail
