We have a new opportunity for an experienced Chief Engineer to join our Kirkham bakery. As the Chief Engineer you will be part of the site’s Leadership team, and is expected to contribute cross-functionally to the operation of the site. You are is expected to work constructively with colleagues at other Fox’s Biscuits sites, and attend a regular Divisional Chief Engineers’ meetings.
The Chief Engineer will lead the engineering operation achieving World Class targeted service levels, quality and performance requirements within cost while maximising benefits from investment. They will be responsible for the whole plant including the purchase, functioning and maintenance of machinery for projects involving new and proposed plants and processes. Driving equipment reliability through a programme of asset care, ensuring that product quality and safety requirements are met along with achieving maintenance targets and successfully delivering complex capital projects

About the Role:
As the Chief Engineer you will contribute to the overall strategic direction of the business with focus on engineering operations and project delivery. Take ownership of the engineering agenda across the factory and deliver against site objectives.
You will also lead and develop the engineering management team ensuring the structure and skill base meet the demands of the business both currently and for the future. Maintain good employment practices in line with legislation, Trade Unions Agreements, Fox’s and 2sfg policies.
Along with develop systems of planned maintenance and engineering practice across all manufacturing departments. Support the development of a Lean Manufacturing CI ethos across the site and seek new ways of operating to improve overall performance.
Good business partnering skills are essential as you will need to maintain harmonious industrial relations, working closely with the HR function especially during annual negotiations. Along with working closely with the site HS Manager to support high standards of HS within Engineering and on site. You will also work closely with site Technical Manager to improve food safety and quality on site.
As the Chief Engineer you will operate a budget with a risk-management approach to spend and cost reduction, identifying areas where known, acceptable reliability/performance risks can be taken to reduce costs. You will be reviewing options from multiple quotes, identifying solutions which offer best overall value.
This is a fast paced role where you will be responsible for many projects, especially product development, change quickly and significantly during their lifetime. Flexibility, fast response and the ability to anticipate change are essential.
Previous experience in a similar engineering management position ideally within a Food or FMCG environment
Experience of World Class Manufacturing within blue chip organization
Excellent project management skills combined with demonstrable evidence of people development
Experience of working with trade unions is preferred
Experience of Preventative Maintenance systems and stock control measures
Evidence of successful delivery of complex capital projects
Evidence of effective contractor control
Good financial acumen
Excellent negotiation skills, both internal and external
