The GIS Developer & Configurator will be part of the Geospatial Systems (GSS) technical delivery team and will perform a range of functions to ensure the operation and efficiency of our GIS infrastructure. They will work flexibly within a well-established team, providing expertise in administering and licencing our GIS platform, including but not limited to, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and SQL Server. As well as having experience and an understanding of open source GIS solutions.
Reporting to the GIS Manager, the post-holder will advise on system configurations and fine tuning as well as monitoring the GIS infrastructure and dealing with issues affecting the running of the system. They will also be responsible for creating new enterprise geodatabases and providing guidance on database design and security.
A typical week would include:
Monitoring servers and software to ensure the system is running efficiently.
Advising on configuration changes to ensure an efficient secure system.
Creating new enterprise geodatabases and advise on design and security.
Managing SQL databases including backups, nightly replica syncs and administration tasks.
Managing user accounts and licencing for our GIS platform.
Working collaboratively with our users, WSP IT and ESRI to resolve any issues.
Monitoring software versions and patches and update the system accordingly
Arranging licencing, user accounts and access to GIS servers for new starters as part of the on boarding process
Carrying out line management duties.
Managing own time and reportees time in conjunction with the Business Analysts and other stakeholders to
ensure system changes are carried out to time and budget and therefore limiting impact on projects.
Undertaking own continuous professional development.
Collaborating with the other teams within GSS to understand and promote our full offering.
Keeping up to date with advances in GIS and how the industry is evolving.
Identifying areas for innovation across the whole of GSS.
