An excellent opportunity has arisen for the role of Product Safety Engineer in the Thales UK Optronics & Missile Electronics (OME) organisation. This role will directly contribute to the on-going development of the Land, Naval and Air product and systems. You will work and collaborate with a diverse team of technical specialists with opportunity to work across a variety of products in the design, development and management of complex systems. You will also get the opportunity to collaborate with teams within the wider Business Unit and UK operations, providing a significant amount of opportunity for career progression and development.
The primary purpose of this role is to identify to the Safety Authority any concerns regarding the safety of a product, or the application of policies and processes.
Skills & Behaviours:
- To generate safety artefacts required to support the product safety argument, such as Safety & Environmental Management Plans, Hazard Logs and Safety & Environmental Case Reports.
- To facilitate appropriate hazard/risk identification including functional failure analysis, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis, Fault & Event Tree Analysis.
- To develop product safety requirements.
- To support Project Design Authorities in achieving compliance with Legislation, Regulations and Standards applicable to the product(s).
- To assist in generating reasonable bid estimates.
- To peer review product safety-related artefacts generated by others in the team.
- Ability to manage multiple safety programmes, including scheduling and interacting with stakeholders.
- To support the development of Product Safety training material and to deliver the training.

Here are some of the key skills, experience and attributes we are looking for in our next Product Safety Engineer:
Experience or formal qualification in Engineering or associated STEM sector
Broad knowledge of safety standards
Industry experience or experience of the military, defence or maritime industries would be desirable
Good communication skills with ability to effectively build relationships with stakeholders, including team members and customers
Attention to detail
Willingness to learn
This role will require SC Clearance. If not currently held it is expected that the post holder will undergo SC Clearance, please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.
