The Backhoe Loader (BHL) Engineering team is a global team spanning three continents. With design responsibility for the line-up of Caterpillar Backhoe Loader models, the team conduct design and development activity in the areas of New Product Introduction (NPI), quality improvement and new features implementation, requiring a strong understanding of diverse market needs from the different sales regions and ingenuity to satisfy those needs in the best way, balancing machine performance and productivity, reliability, first time purchase cost, owning and operating cost, ease of manufacture and assembly, and so on.
As a Design Engineer in the BHL Platform Team, you will have design responsibility for components and systems such as tanks, enclosures, fenders, light fabrication guards, brackets, mechanical controls, counterweights and hydraulic lines routings. These designs cover a broad range of commodities, including nonmetallic moldings, light welded fabrications, castings and hose & tube assemblies. You will partner with a global team of engineers, suppliers, and production facilities to develop products throughout their lifecycle through the phases of concepting, design, validation, production, and post-production support.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Design and validation of components and systems for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs
Lead and support Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects
Collaborate and communicate with internal and external customers, suppliers, team members, manufacturing facilities, and other business units
Take part in or lead design reviews with the wider design team
Product maintenance and support
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Experience in product design / development
Proficiency with Creo CAD design
Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks
Ability to work flexibly across time zones with cross functional, multi-cultural teams
Willingness to travel up to 25%, international and domestic
A strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum or equivalent experience
Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Knowledge or experience of mobile machinery, design and operation
Hydraulic lines routing, nonmetallic component, light fabrication and/or casting design experience
CPPD, APQP, PCM, and design releasing experience
Validation definition experience using DFMEA and DVP&R methods
