Thales Belfast has an opportunity for an intern to join the Systems Engineering department for a 9-12 month fixed term internship. In this role you will gain “hands on experience” of working as a Systems Engineer with the support of the company’s experienced employees.
You will gain experience of all aspects of the Systems Engineering lifecycle – customer needs, system requirements analysis, architectural design, integration, verification and validation. You will understand how constraints such as Safety, Security and Human Factors influence a complex system design. The role will introduce you to key systems engineering tools and processes and you will be supported to work towards accreditation with an appropriate professional institute. You will be given accountability for various aspects of the systems engineering activities as part of your development in this role.
In addition to the professional systems engineering learning you will also undertake activities that will support your wider personal development (such as working with teams, developing awareness of your personal interaction skills etc).

Currently Studying an Engineering & Science related degree or equivalent (preferably in second or third year of degree programme) e.g. Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Maths or Physics.
Excellent problem solving skills with a genuine appetite to systematically solve problems end-to-end
Able to demonstrate knowledge of the Integrated Airspace and Protection Systems and Services business
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the Engineering lifecycle and Engineering practices, tools and philosophies.
Able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and/or experience of System Engineering would be beneficial e.g. via final year project work, summer employment, or work experience.
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as individually
Comfortable with IT packages such as Microsoft office
