Data Engineer – (P/T, job-share or F/T)
Location: Fareham (but can be flexible)
The opportunity:
You’ll join a fairly new Data Analytics and Architecture team, 3 years to be exact, that has grown from strength to strength, achieving its initial objectives and winning a few industry awards along the way. We are continuing to enhance our data platform, delivering more business value whilst preparing for the future by shoring up our infrastructure in the Cloud.
Rather than a general “can you develop in X, Y and hopefully, Z set of requirements”. You’ll use SQL technologies to revoluntionise data and analytics across the business by consolidating and conforming all data across its legacy systems into a new data platform providing a single, consistent format that is accurate and reconciles to the main financial system.
You’ll have the opportunity to transform data across Zurich General Insurance UK. You will be working with a variety of complex datasets to tell a story about our business and our customers from designing new data solutions & developing new analytical pipelines. You will closely collaborate with our business stakeholders, leaders and colleagues to understand the business problems and opportunities and translate them into analytical and data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain and support data pipeline processes from a variety of data sources such as databases, data files, XML, JSON & Hadoop.
Implement, maintain and enhance data pipeline processes for Data Warehouse and Data Mart solutions.
Design and document data integration technical specifications & processes.
Ensuring unit tests on development work is planned and carried out across the time.
Diagnosing and solving production issues.
Assist with Cloud migration strategy, using tools such as Azure Data Factory etc.
Your skills and experience:
Personal skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and able to deal with ambiguity.
Ability to work under pressure and shift priorities depending on business need.
Good communication and time management skills.
Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Technical Skills
Good understanding of Relational Databases & Data Warehouse methodology such as Kimball, Inmon & Data Vault is essential.
Microsoft SQL Server experience.
Developing SSIS solutions ideally using BIML.
Experienced in ETL techniques such as change control, audit logging etc.
Good understanding of Relational Databases & Data Warehouse methodology such as Kimball, Inmon & Data Vault.
Knowledge of various architectures and methodologies like metadata, performance management and handling data quality issues.
Knowledge of some of the following languages & technologies would be advantages: C#, F#, Python, Spark, Hadoop, R, Apache Kafka, Attunity Compose, Scala, Java, .Net, NodeJS, JSON, XML.
Experience working in a DevOps environment including Agile, Scrum or Kanban project management methodology.
Experience with GIT source control or equivalent.
Continuous Integration/Deployment experience such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Bamboo etc.
Developing solutions in the Cloud desirable.
