Data Services Senior Engineer
Work as part of a team on major projects providing technical support to the Lead Engineer. Also work individually on minor non-complex solution implementations, dealing professionally with any issues faced, whilst implementing IP Solutions for business customers. Carried out within operational budgets and within agreed timescales. Follow agreed design documentation. This will also include completion of “As Built” handover documentation to the customer on completion of the project. Play an active part in assisting a small technical team providing capability to produce customer Solution migration documentation for upgrade and enhanced services.
Work in conjunction with other Team Members and Business Sales, Sale Specialists, Pre Sales, Solutions Architecture teams, to test and develop and demonstrate “Proof of Concept” customer solutions within the Secure Technical Environment to Key Stakeholders.
Provide “Cost & Time Estimates” relating to Data Services project work for the Business Solutions Group (BSG) Attend Account Engineering meetings as allocated by the Data Services Manager to win and retain new and existing business customers as part of the Upsell / Cross Sell initiative. Continually develop technical skills and renew accreditations across various venders, including but not limited to Cisco, VMWare, Aruba, Ekahau, and demonstrate a willingness to embrace new technologies and support Virgin Media’s Cisco Gold requirement. Support and mentor the wider Data Services Engineering team in order to promote good team building and knowledge sharing. Take full ownership of faults passed by the FMC within the customer Service Level Agreement (SLA) and update all agencies in a timely manner. Escalate to Principle and Consultant Engineers for support when required. Target: 95% of all fault calls to be completed within the customer SLA. Deliver on-site consulting services such as performance monitoring, network audits, testing/troubleshooting and make recommendations for the optimization of a customer’s network. Demonstrate flexibility to work as part of the National Data Services Team, in order to support variations in workload nationally. This will involve working away from home for periods of time.
Required key skills (functional / technical)
Strong customer facing skills.
Sound understanding of IP Networking technologies and concepts.
Experience in delivering IP Networking projects/solutions.
Experience in fault finding/problem resolution on IP Networking products.
Excellent PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Terminal Emulation).
Able to give internal and external customer presentations.
Good presentation skills including verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of running customer demonstrations.
Able to provide technical resource knowledge within customer meetings.
To lead and implement multiple technologies and solutions using High Availability products sets.
Accredited to Cisco CCNP Enterprise level
Advanced Routing and Switching (IPv6, Multicasting)
Educated to minimum A level or equivalent desirable.
Experience in Microsoft Server/Workstation products desirable
Full UK Driving license required
Security clearance is desirable but not essential to all DSE roles: for those roles where it is necessary, the following two points are required.
To be security cleared to SC level.
To be CRB cleared.
