In Tunnel and Underground Infrastructure, you will become part of COWI's Tunnels unit. Tunnel & Underground Infrastructure has hundreds of skilled experts worldwide and have one of the largest infrastructure departments in the world. We are experienced in all types of tunnels and infrastructure in sectors ranging from railways, highways, metros to energy and power, and we cover the entire lifecycle of a project from idea, concept and design to operation and maintenance.
The Lower Thames Crossing is the single biggest roads investment project since the M25 was completed more than 30 years ago. It will form a vital part of the UK's transport infrastructure and will help businesses large and small to grow and bring people and communities closer to job, education and leisure opportunities. It will connect Essex and Kent and almost double road capacity across the Thames east of London.
REALISE YOUR POTENTIAL WITHIN A TEAM OF EXPERTS
In this position, you will join our global team of experts and work closely with the Ground Investigation Site Assurance Manager. Your primary role will be to for carry out field assurance activities regarding the proposed Ground Investigation (GI) that include land, near-shore and over-water intrusive investigation, in-situ testing, geophysics surveys, sampling and laboratory testing.
The ground investigation technical specification and quality requirements are prepared/defined by LTC’s Ground Investigation team within the Ground Engineering (GE) Workstream. It is acknowledged that the GI is a dynamic process and therefore the scope of the investigations is bound to continually evolve and change.
Therefore, in this role will be required to work in close collaboration with the GE Workstream, in particular, it's Ground Investigation to ensure that the likely changes in the GI scope are adequately implemented in the field. The delivery of the GI will be driven by the aim of achieving the highest quality first, followed by timely delivery and then cost.
On a day to day basis, you will be responsible for:
Overseeing the Contractor's site supervision team (led by the Ground Investigation Supervisor Manager) to provide assurance that the technical objectives and quality of the investigation are met
Working with and developing RAMS for CASCADE team on site
Carrying out quality audits of site investigation teams in relation to their management plans and specification requirements
To provide liaison with the ground investigation design team to review and confirm design and assessment goals to be achieved
Assisting the Contractor's site supervision team in managing the progress of the ground investigation within the programme and cost constraints and ensuring that the Contractor satisfies the requirements of landowners and approval and consenting bodies agreed in relation to the scope of investigation;
Responding to technical queries, review method statements and oversee production of site records by Investigation Supervisor's team;
To hold health, safety and welfare (HSW) as a key project value.

Furthermore, you shall have the following skills and experience:
You are a Registered Ground Engineering Professional under the ROGEP scheme
You are Chartered or nearly chartered Geologist or Civil Engineer with the experience of quality assurance supervision of major ground investigation campaigns for linear infrastructure projects, with a significant proportion of time spent on site
You have proven experience of supervision of:
Land, near-shore and over-water intrusive investigation (cable percussion, rotary, sonic boreholes, trial pits, window sampling, etc);
In situ testing (SPT, CPT, pressurmeter testing, in-hole geophysics, cross-hole geophysics, etc);
Groundwater and Geo-environmental/Contamination samplings, testing and monitoring (pumping tests, packer tests, soil, groundwater, leachate and gas sampling and monitoring, etc)
Active and passive geophysics surveys (geo-electric, seismic, GPR, etc)
core logging and sample selection;
samples handling and storage;
basic, advanced and specialist laboratory testing.
You are experienced in the quality requirements set up in Eurocode and other relevant standards and best practice (e.g. CIRIA) including those from by Association of Association of Geotechnical and Environmental Specialists AGS, British Drilling Association BDA, Federation of Piling Specialists FPS, etc;
You have the knowledge of geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering design processes and experience of applying appropriate materials, methods and tests to achieve information to inform design and assessment goals
You can work with diverse external stakeholders / landowners to ensure agreements and constraints on access etc. are maintained.
You hold at least one of the following H&S certifications:
IOSH safe supervision of geotechnical sites (preferred);
Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or equivalent;
You must hold a valid CSCS Card
You would ideally hold one of the following:
Basic Sea Survival Certificate
First Aid at work emergency
