WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs) are specialists who play a central role in assessing supplier quality and ensuring that products received are free of defects. They communicate between RBSL and suppliers to address and resolve quality issues, providing technical input and guidance on process enhancements and improvements. SQEs will be expected to spend a significant amount of time visiting supplier facilities to assess their practices and procedures and to audit processes and product ensuring suppliers remain compliant. In addition, they work with QA engineers during rigorous tests of received supplies to identify potential areas of failure or recurring manufacturing defects ensuring where necessary timely investigations are conducted, route cause identified and corrective actions are raised and completed, SQEs will be deployed on projects to provide supply quality requirements reporting to a project quality manager and also work direct with the RBSL Supplier Quality Manager performing all supplier quality function disciplines.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
The Supplier Quality Engineer performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:
Managing and developing suppliers, ensuring optimised levels of quality, cost and delivery performance driving continuous improvement to maximise business performance.
Complete supplier Quality Management System audits for purposes of approve & maintain, and to work with suppliers to close out any audit findings.
Work closely with Procurement and Engineering to establish the Supply Chain structure to meet the requirements of the full product lifecycle of RBSL products.
Provide support for product development and New Product Introduction, including technical
Benchmarking, capability assessments, compliances reviews and risk assessment of potential sources of supply.
Support value engineering and manufacturing process assessment and development activities.
Support Design for Manufacture and Assembly activities between RBSL and suppliers.
Manage quality issues in conjunction with key stakeholders, resolving day to day problems, ensuring effective containment and problem resolution for all non-conformances.
Represent SQ at Quality meetings and ensure SQ QNs are explained and closed.
Validate gauge design and manufacture, part measurement and testing with QA Team.
Coordinate APQP activities, and manage projects with minimum supervision.
Ensure acceptable PPAP packages on time, right first time to ensure flawless launch.
Communicate effectively, in confidence with tact and diplomacy, with all levels of internal and external customers.
Resolve issues and customer enquiries to maintain service levels
Any other duties or responsibilities that may be deemed necessary by the business, and commensurate with the grade abilities
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
Candidates should possess a HNC/HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering subject.
Certified Quality Auditor to ISO standards.
Certified Quality Auditor to VDA 6.3 standards.
Lean Six Sigma qualified, Black or Green belt is an advantage.
Member of a recognised professional body such as the Chartered Quality Institute is an advantage.
Proven experience in a Supplier Quality capacity ideally within defence, automotive.
Proven Background in Auditing of suppliers during various phases of CADMID cycle.
Working knowledge and experience of operating in organisations managed under the requirements of regulatory standards including ISO 9001 2015.
Proven background in Supplier Quality Assurance, having worked with supply chain to OE Manufacturers.
Thorough understanding of Quality Management methods e.g. APQP, PPAP, FMEA, 8D.
Experience of operational management, manufacturing and ERP systems, including, BOM’s, Concessions, Change requests, etc.
In depth knowledge of Quality auditing, and regulatory standards for Automotive and Defence.
Good Technical Engineering knowledge, including ability to understand engineering drawing and standards.
Proven experience of driving root cause and corrective/preventative action with Suppliers.
Ability to develop realistic work plans, set personal goals that align with company goals.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to represent the company professionally, sharing ideas and information clearly at all levels.
The ability to communicate clearly and confidently in spoken English, and the ability to read and write complex technical documents in written English.
Proficiency in the use of computer programs, Familiarity with Microsoft office tools, email & internet.
Ability to work alone on projects representing supplier quality, and fulfil all project SQ requirements during Design, Manufacturing and in-service phases.
