- Microsoft Project
We are seeking an exceptional scientist or engineer to join our technical team developing advanced optical technologies for the cloud. The project will be based at state-of-the-art optics Lab in Microsoft Research Cambridge. The project will involve photonic chip design and fabrication.
This is a two-year position in our residency program.
The successful candidate will join a world leading team of optical, electronic, mechanical and software engineers developing solutions to the most challenging and important technological problems.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in optics, photonics engineering, experimental quantum physics or related discipline, or degree plus equivalent professional experience. The ideal candidate should be an expert in the design and simulation of micro/nanophotonic devices such as waveguides and photonic crystals and possess significant fabrication skills in this space.
The successful candidate must be skilled and bring a strong background in several of the following areas:
Classical or quantum optics
Integrated photonics circuit design
Device modelling & simulations using COMSOL, ANSYS Lumerical or other
Cleanroom - Nanofabrication techniques including lithography, etching, FIB, thin films
In addition, the candidate must possess the following skills:
Strong understanding of quantum phenomena in materials in nanoscale
Instrument control (in Python), data analysis and acquisition
Able to work independently with minimal supervision towards defined task milestones within a team environment
Good organizational skills, capable of managing multiple simultaneous tasks effectively
Besides their qualifications for design, modelling and experimental research, candidates should in general provide a high degree of independence, a genuine interest in exploring new physics and technologies, and a general motivation to perform work in a highly collaborative spirit.
The candidate must have at least 4-5 years’ experience working in an optical laboratory environment. Ideally, their research record should be demonstrated by strong publications in Journals and top conferences.
