The Functional Safety team is involved in the definition, implementation, integration and operations of all functional safety systems we deliver as a business.
The team is involved across McLaren Applied in automotive and motorsport markets. Most recently the they have worked on autonomous vehicles, instrumented sports equipment, hybrid drive for motorsport and automotive control systems for multiple motorsport series.

Purpose of the Role
Involved in the safety lifecycle across complex projects; from eliciting safety requirements, performing safety and failure analyses, through to test & verification planning.
Architects concepts working with the Systems, Hardware and Embedded Software teams. Provide technical authority and review of safety related work products from other disciplines and contributes to the planning and implementation of projects, bids and proposals, accountable to the Engineering Managers.
Adhering to Functional Safety best practice in McLaren Applied and working closely with the Functional Safety Manager to continuously improve the practice and processes.
Support development of safety requirements;
Creation and review of safety work products to meet the requirements of ISO 26262 and other similar standards;
Working with disciplines such as systems, hardware, embedded software to define and document their architectures;
Conduct inductive and deductive safety and failure analyses such as FMEA, DFA, FTA, FMEDA, HAZOP at all architectural levels;
Support diagnostic coverage evaluation;
Support to verification and testing activities for Systems, Software and Hardware work products;
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
First class degree or upper 2nd Engineering degree or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience);
Experience of working in a formal safety management environment, e.g. ISO 26262;
Experience of hardware and software development for safety related systems;
Experience of systems design for embedded software systems;
Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering, SysML/UML;
Strong knowledge of safety and failure analyses methodologies such as FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA etc;
Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent technical knowledge. Able to quickly build rapport with peers and stakeholders. Able to tactfully challenge without alienating;
Strong analytical and numerical skills and attention to detail;
Strong understanding of quality management such as standards, regulations and applicable policies and procedures such as information, change and configuration management.
Chartership with relevant professional body (IET, IMechE etc) highly desirable;
Experience with requirements, configuration and change management and associated tooling;
Experience with other relevant standards such as IEC 61508, A-SPICE, ISO 9001 etc;
Experience with failure analysis tools such as APIS, Isograph Reliability Workbench FT+.
