Project Engineer – Wallingford or Consett, UK

Fugro is now seeking Project Engineers to site manage our growing portfolio of projects that are controlled and managed by the UK Onshore Project & Site Management Team based in our offices in Wallingford or Consett. This role will report to the Senior Project Manager and will have no direct reports; however, you shall be required to manage site teams from 5 to 100 people depending on your experience and understanding.
Roles and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintain high standards of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance and promote a positive HSSE culture throughout allocated projects.
Act as a Site Agent for land site investigations
Communicate to the Client and Fugro Senior Management directly to ensure requirements are met
Deliver the on site project works in accordance with the Project Plan in line with budgets and time constraints.
The monitoring, recording and planning of work activities on site, including the management of internal and external suppliers and subcontractors
Assist the Project Manager in the resource management, planning, mentoring and training of a team of engineers and operatives
Manage quality aspects of the works by integration with other senior site management
Delegate and distribute project responsibilities to junior staff and oversee their work
Complete project revenue and cost tracking to assist the Project manager
Manage change control, identify changes in specification and external factors and on site management of commercial aspects of the contract.
Manage working relationships on site throughout all staff and operatives and promote a high level of cultural understanding.
Required skills and experience
A degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Earth Science or equivalent NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management
A good understanding of responsibilities of the Principal Contractor and Contractor under CDM Regs.
An understanding of Civil Engineering – including standard specifications, various conditions of contract forms, HSE Legislation applicable to the company.
Ability to adapt to change and prioritise tasks in accordance with the demands of the job.
Good level of written communication and high level of numerical skills
Confident communication and inter personal skills in order to develop and maintain a good working relationship with the project team and stakeholders.
Proficient with relevant computer applications (MS Office, MS Project)
Commercial skills to ensure control of costs are optimised.
Desirable skills and experience
Project Management qualification
Site Management qualification
Knowledge of plant and equipment used for routine and specialist ground investigation.
Understanding of routine and specialist sampling, in situ and laboratory testing techniques.
Has a wide range of knowledge and skills applicable to the role and can apply these correctly within set guidelines and frameworks.
Consistently provides accurate records and work which fulfil the relevant requirements and standards
Consistently produces the volume of work required without compromising quality
Able to observe, think critically and to solve problems using data, analysis, interpretation and reasoning skills.
Able to define the scope of the project and determine type and quantity of resources required to complete the project
Able to scope and define project roles and responsibilities, has appropriate leadership qualities to promote effective teamwork, can estimate effort, time and resources required to complete individual tasks and create a coherent project plan that takes account of all aspects of the project, able to derive optimum and realistic project schedules, determine critical path items and devise project control methods to keep the project on track and identify when the project deviates from plan.
