Primary role purpose:
Inmarsat requires a self-motivated individual to undertake expert design, modelling and analysis for all aspects of advanced satellite navigations engineering.
Working as part of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) team within the Global Government division this role is a key part of expanding and enhancing Inmarsat’s navigation systems capabilities. The incumbent will join our team of engineers in City Road, London to undertake analysis and planning for future space based navigation systems capabilities including dedicated GNSS and SBAS type systems.
The incumbent will also contribute to the development of specifications for new navigation systems concepts including space and ground segments.
The incumbent will be allocated responsibility for aspects of the design specifications of requirements which will be implement a MBSE methodology using standard systems engineering tools including Enterprise Architect (EA). The incumbent will also perform modelling and analysis to verify that the proposed architecture and design delivers the specified performance.
Development and validation of key specifications and architectures for navigation systems including functional block diagrams, interface definitions, system process flows and definitions
Perform trade-off studies to evaluate architecture implementation options
Contribute analysis and modelling of reliability, availability, maintainability aspects (RAMS) for the selected architecture options
Validations of proposed architecture designs approaches using a Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach implemented via standard systems engineering tools
Supporting the validation of key aspects of the selected architectures via engineering test bed emulation and simulations
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Candidate must be UK National or 5-Eyes nation national
Degree in a numerate subject, Physics or Engineering or Maths preferable – or equivalent industrial experience instead
Strong experience with projects or large systems engineering programmes within industry in roles equivalent to Systems Engineer/Systems Architect
Proven innovation in the development of systems engineering modelling and analysis
Knowledge and understanding of MBSA and proficient in the use of engineering tools such as Enterprise Architect (EA) and DOORS
Proficient in the use of Systems Modelling Language (SysML) or similar
Proven capabilities to develop new software tools using e.g. Microsoft Excel or other standard packages and to be able to take over and further develop existing software tools to support key systems analysis tasks
Knowledge and experience
Knowledge and understanding of the testing aspects for systems engineering testbed emulations including the associated test equipment and test results correlation
Excellent writing and reporting skills
Excellent communication skills with people at all levels of the organization
A passionate desire to take on challenging systems analysis and modelling tasks and deliver innovative solutions in a timely manner
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge and understanding of Satellite Navigation Systems
Knowledge and understanding of spacecraft design and spacecraft development (AIT) methodologies
Highly-competent and able to deliver a clear, well set out vision/definition
Holding a higher degree in an Aerospace-related subject
Demonstrating objective, rational and multidisciplinary thinking
