We are seeking an experienced Composite Structural Engineer to join our Blades Design Team either based in the Isle of Wight, UK, or Lem, Denmark. The Blades organisation is 150+ strong responsible for the design, development, industrialisation and through life support of blade products. As part of the Blades Design Team, you will work alongside 20+ highly skilled, dynamic, multi-cultural team members, responsible for performing the structural design and analysis for new wind turbine blade designs and novel technology developments. You will need to be a strong communicator, a highly effective team player and display a drive and passion for high quality delivery.
As a Composite Structural Engineer, you will design optimised composite structures which can be robustly manufactured. Mainly working as part of multi-functional project teams across the value chain, you will:
Design large scale composite structures
Conduct analytical and FEA based calculations, considering static and fatigue strength and stability
Construct models, and define ply definitions and layups
Define test specifications and validation activities
Make use of FMEAs and other tools to ensure robust and efficient design and verification
Provide documentation, reports and support certification efforts
Develop analysis tools and calculations methods as well as identify, develop and apply future technologies to wind turbine blades
Support first article inspections, reviews and audits to assure design intent is achieved during manufacturing roll out
Solid theoretical knowledge in structural engineering of complex and highly loaded composite structures, at degree level, ideally MSc/MEng/PhD
Practical hands on experience in design of composite structures, preferably large-scale, and their structural analysis and validation at full scale and sub-structural level
Understanding and experience of composite material manufacturing processes is highly desirable
Experience with ANSYS and Catia preferred
Experience and use of 6-Sigma design methodologies and quality tools
Experience specifying and developing analysis tools and methods
Understanding of programming, preferably Python or Matlab, is desirable
Advanced level in English both in speech and in writing
Ability to plan, scope and manage work package execution
Be a team player with strong communication skills both locally and internationally
Display a high degree of flexibility, and problem solving
Ability to display a drive and passion for high quality delivery
Enthusiastic and engaged, willing to go the extra mile
