To be responsible for the completion of the examination work associated with the strategy and instructions of casework submissions as set by the Reporting Scientist. In the most this will be simple casework such as Blood swabs, Cellular recovery and targeted exams. Suitable individuals may be trained in at least one other body fluid search method e.g. Swab Extractions / AP Screening / Saliva Screening / Blood Searching.
The role will be required to participate in any requirement for shift working and/or weekend rota cover (in office or on call) as business needs dictate, either on the basis of hours which are additional to the standard week or by rostering. Where this is required, appropriate rota payments will be made.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Adhere to all aspects of the customer Operational Protocol, GLP and Eurofins Quality Manual
Carry out necessary examinations/analysis as per standard operating procedures to required timescales
Notice when the examination may have to differ from the instructions/strategy set by the reporting scientist and agree appropriate action to take the examination forward
Discuss any potential other examination types that may further assist the customer with the Reporting Scientist
Critical check findings of other Junior Examiners and Examiners of examinations that fall within the individual’s competency.
Ensure all notes are contemporaneous, signed and dated as per standard operating procedures.
Be responsible for the integrity and continuity of exhibits, including their return while under ownership as per examination instructions
Communicate with the reporting scientist as appropriate throughout the lifetime of the case. Provide advice and liaise with offsite reporters and Junior Examiners
Collaborate and where necessary instruct others to complete casework and non-casework tasks. Assist in daily lab space and workflow management
Communicate examination progress with the Work Flow Supervisor / Section Manager ensuring any delays are communicated. Escalate any issues that may arise
Communicate with Lab Supervisor or Section Manager with regards to progress of non-casework tasks
Assist with aspects of Science and Quality that fall within under the skills of the individual. Provide support to others to assist with Science and Quality investigations
Produce an appropriate witness statement or equivalent and attend court as requested
Responsibility for individual daily time booking on the case management system (CLIMs) associated with the allocated case. Record all absences in IFS
Seek continual improvement of methodology and processes that will have a positive impact on quality and effectiveness. Raise ideas at Team meetings and huddles
Mentor and buddy members of the team. Offer advice and support to new recruits
Schedule and co-ordinate non-casework tasks / systems (e.g. Engineer visits, returns, lab monitoring, blanking, space allocation)
This is a development role and full training will be provided
Successful completion of the CLIMS examiner level course. SOC and Submissions knowledge to assist with SOC Cases / QA’s and booking on of exhibits out of hours
Awareness of other evidence areas e.g. SOC, Drugs
An understanding of the requirements of UKAS and the Forensic Regulator. Demonstrate skills to auditors as and when required.
Competent in the examination of most common biology body fluids (blood, semen, saliva), on simple items, including swabs and targeted searches.
Or most of the main M&T evidence types handled by the team (glass, debris collection, paint etc)
Work with coach to manage the examination aspects of the case
Fully trained and competent to follow a strategy and instructions.
Write an appropriate witness statement or equivalent accepted by the CPS.
Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to the required Customer Operational Protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Management System, Health & Safety documents and CPS requirements.
Ownership of an individual case log and PCR document to ensure competence is gained, maintained and demonstrated.

Hours: 37.5 per week
Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance will be required for this role.
