Overall Job Summary
We’re looking for a Server/Storage Support Engineer with a strong technical background to be a key contributor to the build and run operations of our Hosting services. You will be a driven individual who enjoys problem solving and taking control of situations to drive home technical solutions.
Some of the technologies the candidate would be expected to deal with include: Windows/Linux Server, Microsoft Exchange, VMWare, Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services, Network Attached Storage (NAS) & Storage Area Network (SAN) devices, converged & hyperconverged infrastructure, Enterprise backup solutions such as Veeam/Commvault and Active Directory. There would also be a strong need for a good base networking knowledge.
This role can be based in either Witham, Essex; Salford or Newcastle.
Assist with the development of a global hosting integration / separation strategy for acquisitions and divestments.
Provide server/storage architectural and design input into business cases during project planning and initiation.
Provide technical review and approval for every server/storage change proposed (internally and from third party vendors) in line with the relevant strategy.
Advise on the selection of major components of the server/storage environment.
Develop and manage the testing and implementation of the recovery plan for servers/storage, including initial emergency response and recovery procedures.
Manage and maintain server/storage infrastructure hardware and software.
Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers/storage
Monitor and analyse server/storage performance and assure that agreed-upon service levels are met
Respond to communications issues with hosting providers.
Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to provision server/storage products and services.
Lead hosting troubleshooting efforts for major incident response to P1 and P2 incidents as needed
Ensure the quality of root cause analysis efforts for hosting related issues.
Assure IT asset, configuration and change management are practiced, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and maintain current knowledge of plan executables. Respond to emergency server/storage outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Aid in performing security audits, legal discoveries and investigations.
Participate in security solution development.
Develop reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Conduct in-depth research into emerging technologies and trends.
Plan, schedule and manage projects and resources of medium complexity and assignments up to six months of duration.
Manage conflict and handle disputes and disagreements positively and proactively.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
Degree in Information Technology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required.
Previous experience in Hosting environments performing administration, design, planning and implementation preferred.
Experience in emerging technologies such as Nasuni, Nutanix, is a significant plus
Industry Standard certifications.
Ability to travel as necessary.
Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
Knowledge of current technical protocols and standards.
Experienced with Standard IT delivery and process models such as ITIL, COBIT, etc.
Knowledge and experience with messaging systems, network, servers, telecom, storage and backup systems.
Knowledge and experience with network security principles and practices.
Ability to work outside normal business hours as needed
