We are recruiting for Assistant Project Managers to join our multidisciplinary Transport and Infrastructure Group in order to support our Project Managers and strengthen our project delivery.
Experience of working within the highway design environment for UK client organisations such as Highways England or Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM), specifically in the use of the client systems and processes, will be advantageous.
This role would suit emerging professionals with engineering design coordination experience, now seeking to develop their career within Project and Engineering Management.
A typical week would include:
As an Assistant Project Manager your role is focused around a core function of providing the project management support for projects. This includes, but is not limited to:
- delivery management of individual tasks;
- analysis and problem solving;
- preparation of briefing plans / progress reports;
- production of meeting minutes and completion of financial administration such as project set-up;
- in-month updates;
- Collating, formatting and distributing information to support programme requirements.
- Assisting the Project Manager in the maintaining programme control over projects to deliver to time, cost and quality in a safe manner and report on programme progress.
- Assisting in the maintenance and creation of programme governance documentation in accordance with the company Business Management System (BMS)
- Data input into risk registers programme schedules (MS Project / Primavera P6);
- month end reporting and
The finance system implemented by WSP on projects is Agresso. In addition to working with Agresso, these core functions will require an Assistant Project Manager to develop and maintain ‘offline’ project finance Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

We will be looking for suitable candidates that have a degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline or demonstrable experience in relevant project management support working capacity.
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates should have a good understanding of the project management discipline, typically gained through project management training or coaching. WSP have aligned their project management career path against the Association of Project Management (APM) competency framework and will therefore expect candidates to be able to demonstrate knowledge of this framework and to be working towards gaining membership to APM.
Further to exhibiting project management knowledge, WSP is looking for candidates with demonstrable experience of working in a professional business service environment and using the Agresso project finance software system to support a number of different projects and Project Managers.
It would be advantageous for the successful candidate to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Project and have a working Knowledge of Primavera P6 for project planning, purposes. Additionally, as much of our workload centres around professional project services and highway construction, a working knowledge of the New Engineering Contract (NEC) would also be an advantage.
Candidates should also be able to demonstrate clear, concise and effective written and communication skills to supplement effective IT skills based around the standard Microsoft Office suite of software and specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.
WSP will therefore be looking for dedicated candidates with the right skillsets that also exhibit the ability to effectively prioritise work, efficiently liaise and coordinate with staff and clients of all levels and confidently present the findings of any activities they undertake.
