Systems Engineer – Synthetic Training Capability

About the opportunity
Due to expansion in its European-based business, Nova Systems has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Systems Engineer with experience of working with synthetic training systems. Working on site with clients both in the UK and Europe, but with an initial focus on southern UK, the successful candidate will be confident working in the European aerospace and defence sector supporting clients with the development of simulators and synthetic training systems with a focus on distributed operational mission training. You will be an experienced and professionally qualified systems engineer with extensive experience of supporting complex projects. Wider qualifications in project management, requirements engineering, and requirements and acceptance management would be a distinct advantage.
What you’ll actually do
You’ll be involved in many aspects of systems engineering support to Nova project teams, supporting our clients with new capabilities. Typically, this might involve;
Providing specific advice on the design, development and operation of simulator systems and distributed synthetic training capabilities
Supporting clients on the adoption and implementation of an Enterprise System of Systems Approach (SOSA) for through-life capability management of simulators and distributed synthetic training systems across all lines of development – e.g. hardware, software, data, networks, training, documentation, personnel
Supporting clients with requirements engineering and management functions, and the production of any related artefacts
Supporting clients with acceptance management including specific support on integrated test and evaluation of simulators and synthetic training systems
Audit and/or Quality Assurance of client deliverables
What you’ll need
Eligibility to work in the UK (Due to security requirements, applicants need to be a UK National and have been resident in the UK for at least the last 5 years)
Current / eligible for a UK Security Clearance
Practical knowledge and experience working as a systems engineer with complex systems
Specific knowledge and experience of simulators and synthetic training systems gained through working as a system’s engineer in the defence and aerospace sector
Knowledge and experience of open architecture standards used to support distributed simulation including HLA, DIS, NETN, RPR FOM, DDCA
Educated to degree level, or higher in engineering or a related discipline such as Computer Science. Alternative qualifications such as HND/C or similar will be acceptable if supported by evidence of personal development and 5 years of relevant experience. OND/C or similar will be acceptable if supported by evidence of personal development and 10 years of relevant experience
Knowledge and experience of open architecture standards used to support distributed simulation including HLA, DIS, NETN, RPR FOM, DDCA would be an advantage
Experience in requirements engineering and management would be beneficial
Knowledge and experience of COTS software and tools that are currently used in synthetic training systems would be beneficial
Knowledge of Enterprise Architecting would be beneficial
Knowledge of current UK military platforms and systems would be beneficial
Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads
High level of written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to write technical reports of the highest standard
Self-motivated and able to operate with a high degree of autonomy
Problem solving skills
