Reporting to the Senior Technical Project Manager, this position is based at our Birmingham Head Office and is the key contact for our UK based original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Support the European OE business by managing technical relationships with OEM car manufacturers.
Work cross-functionally on multi-region projects e.g. EMEA and Asia.
Act as the OEM customer interface with OE tyre development teams throughout the full process, including OE advanced tyre engineering, preliminary tests, virtual and tyre submission loops, requests for information to release into production and beyond.
Act as the local vehicle dynamics expert with the OEM.
Collaborate with OE cross-functional teams, the business and all other OE relevant functions.
Communicate strategic information and intelligence including customer feedback and competitor insights, OEM and market needs to R&D and OE sales management and propose suggestions and solutions.
Create and maintain good professional relationships with customers and provide technical assistance.
Offer technical support at customer meetings demonstrating in-depth technical knowledge (tyre design, regulations, virtual development process, vehicle dynamics, noise/vibration/harshness (NVH), aerodynamics, etc.)
Build credibility with customers from both a technical, innovation capability and ethical standpoint.
Contribute, monitor and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
Obtain technical nominations and OE approvals for Goodyear and Dunlop products in line with the OE EMEA and Asia roadmaps.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a similar discipline.
Fluency in English is a must. Another language would be an asset.
Previous technical experience in the tyre or automotive industry.
Experience of tyre engineering would be a major advantage.
Knowledge or experience of vehicle dynamics is an asset.
Ability to establish excellent customer relationships.
Cross-functional team player with the ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary global environment.
Tyre and car product know how.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a flexible approach.
Able to travel frequently: 30% to 50% of the role will be dedicated to customer visits and meetings at customer offices, mainly in the UK.
Effective negotiation skills and open minded.
