Our highly specialised team are able to help with both rapid assessments and in-depth research that supports decision-making around flood risk. Our flexible, robust flood modelling software means we can develop and customise models relatively quickly, and use them to answer specific questions, helping our clients to be far more agile and responsive. We help to improve our clients’ confidence in their decision-making. The primary work is supporting Private Developers (small and large). We further support Councils and Government in better understanding Flood Risk and Surface Water Drainage. We make the complicated simple.
About the Role
Due to the continued success and growth of the company we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Flood Modelling and Flood Risk Consultant. You will become a key part of the existing consulting team; the successful candidate will have an enthusiasm to develop their career in the water/ environment sector. We are looking for someone that is hard-working, well-organised, motivated, enthusiastic and flexible, the right candidate will be able to work independently or as part of a team and can communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with colleagues and clients alike.
Daily tasks included but not limited to:
Constructing hydraulic models (TUFLOW, FloodModeller, HEC-RAS etc.)
Conducting hydrological analysis (ReFH2, WINFAP etc.)
Optimising mitigation solutions through the use of culverts, bunds, storage areas etc.
Assessing flood risk to property and businesses
Utilisation of GIS software and datasets
Writing Flood Risk Assessments and Surface Water Drainage Strategies

Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role you will hold a Minimum degree(s) in Civil Engineering and have a good technical background with substantial and proven industry experience.
Minimum 4 years’ experience with Fluvial and Tidal Hydraulic Modelling using software including but not limited to TUFLOW, HECRAS, Flood Modeller Pro, MIKE11 and 12d. TUFLOW experience to include several add on modules such as Multiple 2D Domain and the GPU Hardware Module.
Knowledge of hydrological modelling software such as DRAINS and ReFH2 to generate appropriate hydrographs for use in hydraulic models.
Flood frequency investigation capability through statistical analysis software including TUFLOW FLIKE and WINFAP.
Hydraulic model optioneering of several flood defence and mitigation schemes including bunds, non-return valves, flood compensatory storage, installation of new culverts, construction of new channels as well as dynamic flood barriers.
Minimum 4 years’ experience of GIS Software Experience including but not limited to QGIS, MapInfo Pro, Global Mapper, ArcGIS and AutoCAD.
Ability to Calibrate DRAINS and TUFLOW models to record stream flow data and surveyed flood marks.
Experience in developing flood studies and floodplain risk management plans for any given area.
At least 4 years’ experience of carrying out detailed Sequential Tests, Flood Risk Assessments, Flood Evacuation Plans and Surface Water Drainage Strategies for developments of varying size and complexity.
Ability to manually map both urban and rural catchments based on LiDAR derived ground contours, aerial photography, cadastre boundary data and stormwater asset data.
Experience in the development of a flood damages database to determine the average annual damages to residential properties and businesses within the borough.
Varied experience in flood modelling to include traffic and highway projects.
In addition, you will ideally be working towards chartered status within CIWEM or ICE and be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills (to be utilised in report writing and presenting to clients). You will work effectively as part of a wider team and be client focused with an excellent commercial acumen.
