As a Construction Assurance Engineer, you will be ensuring contractors are safely delivering the required assets to time, quality and cost. You will be involved during the design, construction, commissioning and defects rectification period of the project: Ensuring buildability, efficient and effective delivery whilst safeguarding our site compliance and process. Meeting regulatory and statutory requirements and maximising benefits to Thames Water.
You will be responsible for overseeing all construction activities on your projects from conception to completion monitoring compliance with our asset standards, safety, environmental and quality standards and with wider regulations.
You will actively promote the Thames Water ‘Three Zeros’ culture, monitoring contractor health and safety performance.
Key responsibilities for the role include:
Audit contractor compliance with site procedures, following up and ensuring corrective actions are closed out.
Manage identification and resolution of snags prior to commencement of Take Over procedures.
Co-ordinate with other functions to ensure knowledge on contractor performance is shared and action taken to achieve excellent performance.
Support business change and improvement. Encouraging and supporting innovation from the supply chain.
Proactively protect and enhance Thames Water’s reputation with external customers and stakeholders.
Liaise with Operations and contractors to agree schedules of post Take Over works.
Follow up with Operations after Take Over to identify issues in asset performance and reliability.
Liaise with Operations and contractors to manage the defects process.
Monitor contractor compliance with environmental requirements in asset design and delivery, monitor delivery performance and working with contractors to address issues and improve.
Support contractor and Operations liaison during the design process, promoting innovation, best practice, and compliance with quality standards; planning for system integration, operability and maintainability.
Support key design reviews (Solutions review/Challenge Workshop, HAZOP, HAZCOM, SWIFT.
Verify and approve project plans (Project Delivery Plan, Commissioning Plan, test plans).
Identify risks and issues; reporting to key stakeholders; working with stakeholders to resolve.
Liaise with Operations and contractors to approve passing through key milestones (start on site, start of commissioning, start of Take Over procedures).
Assess and report project progress, acting to rectify issues and escalating where necessary.
Monitor and review component (FAT/SAT) testing and commissioning, ensuring all commissioning activities defined in the commissioning plan are satisfactorily completed.
To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
HNC or above in an appropriate engineering subject or significant experience in similar role.
Ideally, you will have NEBOSH or IOSH General or Construction Certificate or SMSTS or willing to gain.
Knowledge and understanding of processes used in Water and/or Wastewater as appropriate.
Understanding of the development of design, construction and operation of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
Self-starting, resilient and tenacious under pressure, with a desire to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and quality.
