Lightsource BP Innovation
Lightsource BP innovation team is responsible to ensure that the organization stays abreast of all relevant solar technology developments with a specific view to enable first mover advantage when deployed at industrial scale. Innovation team provides technical support across all areas of the organization and business activities.
Various parts of BP including technology research, alternative energy, downstream and other business activities interface with LightsourceBP innovation to ensure efficient communication and resource allocation across all parts of the BP group. Innovation undertakes roles as technology advisor, project participant and technology lead across a wide range of common interests
Interaction and responsibilities for all members of the team includes a regular requirement for extended periods of international travel where individuals’ flexibility in this regard will be required to fulfill the role.
Duties and responsibilities
Be available during weekdays at the London head office to interface with the central organization
Carry out renewable energy visits for Lightsource BP sites and potential new technology providers
Support plant performance improvement programs
Apply data analytical expertise to model and measure performance impacts of new technologies under evaluation
Manage innovation projects actively engaging with third parties to ensure progress both in short and long term programs
Manage external consultancies and academic interfaces including Lightsource BP intern engagement.
Contribute to and support all areas of LS technical Team, including adhoc requirements during times of escalation.
Generate relevant technical reports and associated documentation to track and demonstrate innovation progress over time
Define and assure specification and testing documentation and associated tasks of new technologies under review as they become available at an industrial scale
Extensive knowledge of Industrial scale PV plant design and performance.
Knowledge of PV plant performance parameters such as PR and familiarity with recognized performance testing procedures,
Familiarity with key PV plant component performance parameters.
On site distributed energy and international travel exposure
Exposure and interest in up coming renewable energy developments through existing networks and leverage of alternative sources, formal or otherwise
Fluent English spoken and written.
Full EU driving license
Engineering appreciation of Solar PV, Energy storage and / or distributed generation installations.
PVSYST, MS Office advanced Excel user, CAD skills.
Develop tools, coach and support technical personnel within organization.
Outstanding communications skills able to manage interaction with internal and external interfaces.
Commitment to match the working ethos and hours and of Lightsource technical and delivery team.
Confidence to maintain integrity and justify Lightsource BP Innovation viewpoints when exposed to both internal and external pressure.
Availability to travel and work from central London office, occasional foreign travel.
4 + years industrial technical employment in renewable energy generation.
Engineering experience of industrial scale PV plants.
Prior exposure and appreciation of financial business case implications for distributed energy assets
