Fugro GB Marine Ltd (FGBML), based at our waterfront office in Portchester on the UK’s south coast, specialise in the renewables, unexploded ordnance (UXO), nearshore and utilities survey sectors across north-west Europe. Our vessels are equipped with industry leading survey systems at the forefront of hydrography and shallow geophysics. Our projects range from combined multibeam echosounder (MBES) and laser scanning surveys of harbour jettys through to large scale gradiometer UXO surveys.
We are expanding our geophysics team and are looking for geophysical survey engineers. This is an exciting opportunity to be a key member of a team working on industry leading projects with encouragement and support to learn, develop and progress through the survey industry within a global organisation.
As Geophysical Engineer with FGBML you will be responsible for the mobilisation and operation of geophysical and hydrographic survey equipment including acquisition and quality control of data onboard survey vessels in north-west Europe, and on occasion worldwide. Offshore and office contracts based at our Portchester office are available, both including 90 to 200 days offshore per year, with offshore contracts based on regular 4 week rotations. Acquire, QC and process geophysical data including sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, magnetometer and EIVA Scanfish;
Assist with or lead mobilisation, calibration and demobilisation of vessels;
Maintain and repair survey equipment;
Lead deployment and recovery of survey equipment from vessels;
Train and supervise engineers less experienced in hydrographic and geophysical survey methods;
Ensure adherence to QHSSE policies and practices;
Author, update and follow work instructions and procedures on a variety of geophysical survey work;
Work closely with other Fugro survey teams worldwide.
A qualification in geophysics, engineering, or closely-related subject is essential;
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in geophysics or an engineering discipline, or closely-related subject, is desirable but not essential.
The following attributes are essential:
Good English language skills, verbal and written;
Excellent numeracy and computer literacy;
Good attention to detail, quality and safety;
Able to work flexible hours, travel when required and work offshore for periods of up to 4 weeks;
Good understanding of geophysical survey principles.
The following attributes are desirable:
Experience of working offshore;
Experience of industry-standard geophysical software (Edgetech, Geometrics, EIVA Scanfish, Innomar);
Experience operating or repairing geophysical survey equipment – sidescan sonar, sub bottom profiler, magnetometer, Scanfish.
